With the Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x, you can achieve tight compositions with the full resolution of your sensor by shooting in the native image area of your camera. You might already be approximating this effect with in-camera cropping, but that cuts out over 50% of your image sensor's pixels.
Forget it's even there.
Retain all of your compatible lens’ AF functionality and speed, VR capabilities and minimum focusing distance, with only 2 stops of light loss and very little weight and length gain. The lens' illuminated information panel will even display the correctly converted focal length.

The Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x can use every focus point of your Z camera’s sensor all the way to f/11—unprecedented for teleconverters.

The Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x maintains the close focusing capability of NIKKOR Z lenses while enlarging the reproduction ratio by 2.0x that of the main lens. When used with NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, for example, you can zoom in to 400mm from just 3.28 feet away to reveal the tiniest details.

works for 95% of needs
I have both the 1.4x and 2.0x converters. I use them on the 100-400mm Nikon Z mount while I wait (forever) for Nikon to release the 200-600 Z mount lens. After doing a lot of testing against both the 100-400 on its own and with the 1.4X and using appropriate enlargements of images to make direct comparisons in image quality I personally have found the difference in quality to be pretty minimal. The 1.4x does not affect quality at all, the 2.0x is a little softer if you pixel peep. In real life the results at full frame resolution is negligible , and the advantage is that the 100-400mm even with either converter is both smaller and lighter than using an available 150-600mm lens from Sigma, Tamron, etc - which you would also need an F Mount adapter to use as those companies do not make Z mount versions. I know, I have been that route, and if you are 'birding' in the field it can make a difference. Both these converters are very much improved on previous generations from any manufacturer. One thing to consider though is there is a shallow depth of field (which may be an asset in some situations), and with the 2x you are starting at f11 as a minimum exposure which older cameras may have an issue with autofocus, and you can't close down f stops very much before you get into diffraction issues. Again, having said all that I have had excellent and emminently publishable images with this combination.
