This soft case is good for protecting my Nikon D5100 and lens when I am traveling or walking around. It looks a bit bulky but it does the job. When I want to take pictures I have to take it off completely to shoot. It's kinda inconvenience because I don't know where to put them. This case fits perfectly with Nikon D5100 body and nikkor 18-200mm zoom lens on it. It's also fit with Tokina 12-24mm wide angle lens. Unfortunately, the hoods have to stay home. It's also fit with Nikon D5100 with nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens with hood. Hope this info help.

I've had my Nikon D-5000 for a couple of months now and use this case pretty much exclusively. My original Nikon 35mm film camera (for those old enough to remember film) case used the tripod mount to secure the case to the camera. As the D5000 has the screen the old approach does not work. So, there is a small strap that goes around the neck strap, and you pull the entire case off to shoot and it sort of dangles there. After taking a couple of pictures, you have to pull the case back around the camera (and often the right side sort of folds in and you have to try again). If I'm going to be taking more than a few shots, like at the zoo, I leave the case off completely. So, not the most convenient case, but at the same time not sure how you would improve it. It provides a little protection for dust and bumping and scratches. It is worth buying but can't rave over it.

Great for those times you want to carry the camera without the bag full of accessories.
Fits the 3200 with either the 18-55mm or 55-200mm lens attached.
Sufficient padding for protection, and stays attached to the camera strap while shooting, or can be easily removed.

I was hesitant about this because 1) it didn't have a strap and it uses the strap on the camera 2) it was as soft shell 3) it didn't have space or pockets for additional lens cover. After I put the cover and sling it over my shoulder, it felt like exactly what I was looking for in a case. A case that wasn't too bulky that covered my nikon D5000 when I took it outdoors. It was light with a thick enough nylon shell that will protect the camera, so I can put it down in the car or carry it on my side. I predict I will plan ahead to use a filter or hood and I expect it to be on the camera anyway, if I'm shooting outdoors. No room for an extra lens and battery, but I plan to keep those in the hotel or some other carry case if I'm ever in that mode. I just need a good holster. I can pull out the camera easily and there is strap with a snap button that will allow it to hang off the camera while shooting. It doesn't interfere with shooting, although it felt awkward at first, I got used to it quickly. I will plan of bringing a backpack of some sort if I need to remove the case completely to shoot without the case hanging off the strap (or give it to my wife to hold). Having an SLR and planning to shoot outside, you should always have a pack anyway, unless your camera case is a big sack with enough space to hold everything including an extra lens.

I had previously used the Nikon CF-DC1 for my Nikon D40 with the Nikkor 18-200mm lens. It was a stretch (literally) to make it work. When we picked up a new D5500, we needed to replace the Velcro on the old case because it had gotten worn enough that sometimes the case would be pulled from the camera.

Rather than do that, I ordered this case and I am glad that I did. It is about half (0.5) an inch longer than the CF-DC1 Soft Case, which is all that is needed for a good accommodation of the length of the 18-200 mm zoom. It doesn't say "Nikon" on the front of the case (Nikon is debossed on a piece of leather sewn to the top of the case), but that is just as well to help hide your expensive camera from thieves.

Construction seems as good as it was 8 years ago when we bought our first soft case, and other than the Velcro, that case has seen 70,000 pictures snapped and probably traveled half a million miles, generally on our shoulders (i.e., exposed to taxi floors, airplane floors and seats, trunks of autos, banged about all the time.

Highly recommended.

Fits my D5300 and 140mm lens like a glove. Offers good protection when carrying the camera during hikes. I wish the keeper system that keeps the case attached to the camera strap during use would accommodate a wider strap though. Works fine with the original Nikon strap but I usually end up unsnapping it from my wide neck strap and setting the case aside when taking successive shots. A minor inconvenience.

This camera case is great. I keep it on the camera whenever I am transporting it, even inside the larger camera case. When I am hiking, biking, or in the car, it helps protect the camera from minor bumps, but quickly disengages from the camera when I want to take a shot.
