ACULON AL11: Product Details
Portability And Performance
If smaller means better, then Nikon’s all-new ACULON Rangefinder is at the top of its class. With its ultra-compact size (3.6”x2.9”x1.5), this new rangefinder redefines 'portability' and is small enough to rival most smartphones. Weighing just 4.4 ounces (without batteries), the ACULON Rangefinder is built to be taken everywhere.
The ACULON rangefinder is small enough to fit in almost any pocket or pack. It is the ultimate, take-everywhere rangefinder.
Utilizing Nikon’s Multilayer Coatings
Multilayer coatings provide an even higher light transmittance across the entire visible light spectrum. This minimizes the loss of light due to reflection, thereby ensuring a more natural, clearer view.
Long Eye Relief
Nikon has manufactured the ACULON rangefinder, as well as many other of their optics, with a high-eyepoint design. This provides a clear field of view for everyone even with sufficient space between the user's brow and the rangefinder. This provides a full field of view when ranging targets even when the user is wearing eyeglasses.
The uncluttered screen displays ranges in 1-meter/yard intervals.
Single Button Operation
For fast, easy measurements, the single button operation of the ACULON rangefinder is simple to use and automatically powers down after 8 seconds to reduce battery use.

Programmed in Distant Target Priority Mode
The ACULON rangefinder is conveniently programmed to display the range of the furthest target among a group of targets measured, which is particularly useful when the subject is partially obscured by grass or brush
Nikon’s ACULON Rangefinder
Nikon is the world leader in optics and is on the cutting edge of laser rangefinder technology. The new ACULON Rangefinder delivers world-class performance in an extremely compact body. Nowhere else will you find the speed, the precision and the optical quality of the palm-sized ACULON.
If smaller means better, then the ACULON Rangefinder is at the top of its class. With its ultra-compact size (3.6”x2.9”x1.5”), this new rangefinder redefines “portability” and is small enough to rival most smartphones. Its palm-sized dimensions make it comfortable to wear around your neck or fit in your pocket. And because it weighs just 4.4 ounces (without batteries), the ACULON Rangefinder is so light you’ll hardly even notice it’s there.
Operating the ACULON Rangefinder is intuitive and requires just the simple push of a button to get an instant distance reading. When the button is held down, the rangefinder gives a continuous measurement for up to 20 seconds as you scroll across the visible area. The display is uncluttered and free of any unnecessary obstructions so you can concentrate on the object you’re ranging. The ACULON Rangefinder automatically powers down after eight seconds of inactivity.
Distant Target Priority Mode
The ACULON Rangefinder is programmed in Distant Target Priority Mode – meaning that it will display the range of the furthest target amongst a group of targets measured. This is particularly useful if the object being measured is partially obscured by grass or brush.
Nikon’s Quality Optics
The ACULON Rangefinder has 6x magnification and a 20mm objective lens. It features long eye relief (16.7 mm) and is engineered using Nikon’s multilayer coated optics, which provide an even higher light transmittance across the entire visible light spectrum. This minimizes the loss of light due to reflection, thereby ensuring a more natural, clearer view.
Speed is a virtue in which the ACULON Rangefinder excels. As soon as you push the button, it delivers an accurate reading from six yards all the way out to 550 yards. Measurements are easy to read and are displayed in 1 yard/meter increments. When seconds count, you’ll have an instant reading with a precision that you can rely on.

The two button controls are intuitive and self explanatory, you can choose meters or yards, the buttons click positively when pressed. The display is very legible, but is non-illuminated, it only shows crosshairs, distance, and battery life.
The nylon case is well made and I found it extremely useful when worn on the belt. The supplied lanyard is handy, but it was much more convenient to just holster the rangefinder in the case than to have it swinging from my neck while shooting.
I don't have any gripes, but if I had to pick any "cons" about this little Nikon it would be: 1st the CR2 battery, I would have preferred it to be the CR123, which is commonly used with shooting related electronics. However the CR2 is usually available at most local drugstores and the one Nikon supplies is an excellent Panasonic battery. 2nd is the quick 8 second auto shut-off. It's not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to be able to override this feature.
Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. I was for the first time confident that I sighted my 5.56 rifles at a true 50-200, well based on the Nikon literature 1 yard +/- 😉
It has a 2 year warranty, but I hope it lasts longer. It's a fun little device!
