When I say the the zoom is ridiculous, I mean it in an amazing way. I've been watching the previous model of this camera for a while after seeing some Moon videos on youtube. After I saw Nikon released this new version, I waited to see reviews of it, and I was convinced I had to get the camera.
One thing to mention is, the optical zoom (physical zoom) is the best feature of this camera. The digital zoom creates digital noise in the image, which is ok for certain moments, but if you'd like to have excellent video quality, the digital zoom won't help with that.
Other than that, I am beyond pleased with the camera and I can't wait to keep taking photos and videos of places I can't reach.

Great camera. Insane zoom. I love it. A bit slow in low light but will make shots if there is light. Not useful in the dark. Daytime takes sharp images, overall it’s a great camera.

love my Nikon's. the range is incredible. more a novelty really. after the novelty wears off you have a entry level DSLR with a painfully slow processor. oh with untouchable range.

Build quality? Its Nikon. All the buttons feel good the rotary dials are smooth the flip screen is solid. Nothing is loose or shaky. Lens hood turn clicks smoothly. Battery door flash everything is butter.
The image quality is good. Best in daylight or well lit conditions. It does ok in low light better than my SX60 for sure but don't expect greatness. I thought I was going to be disappointed as I looked at the lcd and saw a slightly grainy muddy soft picture. Then I hit the record button and the picture sharpened up. 🤔 Played it back on the computer and it was good. The colors are good white balancing exposure saturation etc. There is some adjustability to play around with. It could use more dynamic range and navigating the menu is simple but some items like iso should be quick access not a menu dive to change settings.
The sound is good and you can control the mic level. It's all the way up ( 64 ) out of the box and it has an external mic input. 🙂 If you get distorted wobbly sound turn off the zoom mic. Image stabilization is ok but the more you zoom the less stable it gets and it's not available in 4k according to the menu. Use a tripod a monopod won't do it. And that gets us to the main attraction THE ZOOM. Its amazeballs. 😲 Clear in focus and you can take it further with digital. If it gets out of focus you just hit the AF button and wallah. Saw a "professional" review this camera and she said it didn't focus well. 😐
It's on the heavier bigger side of things but if you DSLR not much difference. If you point n shoot you're going to feel the weight real quick. The further you zoom the weight shifts forward. You may want to get an adjustable base plate. The tripod screw is not in the way of the battery door once mounted but for this camera it should not be so far back. Just a little unbalanced but I'm ok with it as I plan on mounting other things.
I wish there were a few more options and quicker access to some features but overall I think this is a good camera. Its definitely unique as its main feature is the ZOOM. And if you have a BMPCC this uses the same batteries. 👍I'm pretty happy with it but it is pricey sittin around $1k 😮
It's a decent package with thrown in items that you can actually use. The case is just big enough for the camera and the included accessories. You just have to rearrange the pads. The case is good it's not thin cheapo looks like it could protect the camera ok. All the accessories are ok. The only thing was the card reader it looks and feels cheap. Thin plastic that would break easy. But hey it's just a card reader. The lens covers are good they went on smoothly. The threading was good and the glass is decent. It's all above cheap falling in the ok to good category. The memory card is a good sandisk U3 but it's only 32g. 4k anything you'll want 64g bare minimum. Now let's get to the meat of this package THE CAMERA. 📸

I preordered when they were first released. I kept it a month, sold it and went back to my 900 as my main point and shoot camera. The Nikon 1000 has many options and has a very beautiful image, BUT for capturing birds in flight or wildlife the vibration stabilization was terrible. Use with a tripod, and you will love the results, but will the weight break the bottom of the camera as happened with the 900? I like the time-lapse and the night sky options but found it did not justify the cost since I have the 900 and several DSLR's. Good Luck and Enjoy!
