You can see the clarity of the camera by the photos in Jamaica. We were moving down river and I was still able to capture great shots. The underwater shots were in Cozumel and it was very windy that day, but the pictures and videos came out great. The camera was great in Grand Cayman. My husband took excellent videos of the stingrays. Unfortunately, I cannot get them to post here.
We highly recommend this camera. It exceeded our expectations and captured great memories of our cruise!
I took quite a few pictures, as well as video, in all sorts of settings. I wanted to get a feel for quality so I took pictures indoors, outside in the bright sun, in the shade, at different lengths (to test the zoom), and even let the 2 year old play around with it. I do have to say I was a little disappointed while taking the pictures, as the display just doesn't do the pictures justice. The pictures just didn't look great on the display while I was taking them. After the long day at the zoo was over, I popped the SD card into my laptop to find just about every picture and video was crystal clear and bright! Even the shots at 3x zoom (I never expect much from digital zoom, so I didn't go that far).
I'll upload a couple shots when I have more time.
He's taken pictures outside of our pond, which were comparable in quality to any digital camera we've ever had. He's taken both photos and videos under water at his work and we were both amazed at quality of both.
This camera is very easy to use and we both had a very good handle on all of its features within a very short time. The effects are fun to play with and there are a lot of settings for various types of photos you may be taking (fireworks, night, outside, face recognition, etc.). It zooms in/out easily and there are separate buttons for photo and video (video also records audio), making it very easy to just point and start shooting right away. It didn't come with an SD card but I bought a 16g one on sale for $10 which was a great deal.
I have to admit that part of me didn't trust a camera that claimed to be waterproof and we didn't dare use it underwater at first after we first bought it but eventually we figured that it was meant to be used underwater, and was under warranty, so we tried it and were very happy with the results. My husband loves his new camera and he loves to take pictures and videos: of nature, underwater, scenic, wildlife, etc. He's really happy with our choice and thrilled that we went with a waterproof one. Now he isn't worried about dropping it in water. The price was ridiculously reasonable considering how much other waterproof cameras cost; did not break the budget at all.
My husband's previous camera was a Nikkon Coolpix S01, a tiny thing: he had a white one and I still have my red one. Though I absolutely love the S01, I think a waterproof camera would be so much fun and this one has proven to be a super camera for us non-professional photogs. This is a great camera for the whole family and super easy to use for the technically non-inclined. I was going to say 'easy for kids' as well but kids are often more technically inclined than their elders anyway. Still, with a camera like this, you don't have to worry about getting it wet, dropping it, or leaving it outdoors accidently overnight in the winter (even in Canada) as it is waterproof to 33 feet, shockproof to 5', and temperature safe to 14 degrees below zero (celcius, I'm assuming). If something happened to my own S01, I'd definitely make this my next camera as well.
I'm including a photo I took of our pond the other day to show photo quality (has lots of colors to judge by).
FOLLOW UP (Aug. 30/15): Camera's on button starting sticking in the depressed position but will still turn on/off. Button that you use to open the SD card/plugs compartment is also sticking and won't open/close well. The door to the compartment is sticking and it's hard to open/close it. Needless to say I am taking the camera back tomorrow for a new one (if they have one)...if they don't, I'll see what else they have. I knew it was too good to be true.
FOLLOW UP (Sep 3/16, yes, a year later): The store we got the camera from said the that sticking was from sand getting into the buttons and that if it was waterproof, it should have been sandproof also. The store took the camera and gladly replaced it. Because my husband liked the camera so much, he agreed that the broken one be replaced with a new one of the same model. He's now had that new one for a year now and still loves it. He's just careful when he uses it in water, not to get it near sand or floating sand and he never puts it down on sand out of the water. He's been using it for a year and loves it. I still highly recommend the camera, just keep sand away from it.
