I have been using this camera just over 8 months now and I am very pleased with the performance of this camera in casual shooting and it has even managed to hold its own for me when tasked with some light event photography. The camera body is fairly light in hand in comparison to other DSLRs such as its predecessors the nikon 3200 and 3100 and it is also considerably less bulky than the 5300 and all 7000 series dslrs which make this camera very convenient for out door work. In portraiture the kit lens do more then you would expect in terms of quality; they are relatively fast autofocusing (for a kit lens) and the new VR2 lens design makes them much more compact than their predecessors as well. As a new photographer with this being the first DSLR I have ever owned I have found that through use of these lens that they are out grown fairly quickly. After a couple months of use the 55-200mm VR2 kit lens became inadequate in terms of its zoom capabilities. Despite that the biggest difference between a DSLR and a point and shoot is the ability to use different lens actually stopping to get your 55-200 lens and switch it with your 18-55 or vice versa nearly always causes you to miss the shot. For this reason I would recommend investing is a sigma(a third party company) 18-250mm lens and forgo purchasing the 18-55 and 55-200 since it will not require upgrading nearly as fast as the kit lens.

It is the holiday season and the internet is flooded with inexperienced parents doing there holiday shopping as trying to figure out what all those acronyms mean and may be thinking that the magnitude of the number on the zoom is the soul factor on quality of a lens. If this may be you here is what you should know about this product.

The D3300 has great image quality. I am new to photography but the D3300 was easy enough to learn especially once I watched a few Youtube videos on how to use the camera. The D3300 is a small camera which is great because it's not like you have to lug around a huge DSLR. I bought the camera with both VRII lenses. However, I find I only really use the 18-55mm VRII stock lens. After a while, you will have to learn how to use the camera in manual mode in order to get the quality you want.

I've attached a few pictures from the camera.

Great camera for the money. I paid $320 at wall mart with the kit lens but the camera was returned to the store. I think its one of the best starter DSLR out there but you have to know what you want. Takes nice photos and a good tripod and good glass makes the world a difference. I recommend the 35mm nikon lens and the nikon 55-300mm vr lens. All shot with the 18-55 kit lens

1) I didn't buy this camera - it was gifted to me (purchased from Sams Club) so I can't speak about the packaging and whatnot....
2) This is a great camera!!! I LOVE to take pics and received this camera as a Christmas gift. I am still figuring out many things on it, but so far I am VERY impressed. I'm definitely an amature photographer and usually use my iPhone so this is a MUCH better alternative :)

I bought this camera before going on a road trip to Yellowstone National Park. I took some classes to get more familiar with shooting in the manual mode. I absolutely love this camera. It is my first DSLR, and I'm happy I went with Nikon. I have taken some great photos with it and it's held up quite nicely. I think it's a great starter DSLR.

I received my camera just days before Christmas and I love it!! I have always been a Canon person until trying one of these out in Costco last year. This camera gives me so many options and the VR lens is far superior to the Canon. All of my photos so far have been indoor with low lighting compared to what I will be able to do outdoors with it, which is why I know that the quality I am getting now will be that much better outside. This isn't just a beginner level camera, it's good to have some knowledge of ISO and your F stops in order to get the most out of it.

I received this as an early Christmas present. I enjoy taking photos of myself and other subjects as well as shooting video for my YouTube channel. In addition to using my cell phone (Samsung Galax Note 2 --which has now been replaced with the Galaxy Note 5) and my Canon PowerShot A800.
I had been looking at the Nikon line of cameras as well as the Canon brand. I knew starting in photography would be expensive, but I had no idea. I set out looking for an affordable camera, less than $500 to start, so I researched the Nikon D3100, D3200 and D3300 and comparable Canon versions. This was at least a six month process for me. After reading reviews, articles and other data, and factored in the price, I settled on this Nikon D3300. The final deciding factor was the price and the kit that came with the camera.
This camera came with a kit, which is the 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR II. In addition, there was a special with this camera that included the 55-200 1:4-5.6G ED VR II NIKOR lens. It also came with a camera strap, bag, 8G media card and blue tooth adapter.
I prepped myself by watching tons of YouTube video, resources from the Nikon website and other websites. I've heard it said across the board that this camera is a great camera for beginners and I'd have to agree.
When you see me, you'll usually find my camera at my hip. I've taken portraits, nature shots and event photos and they come out great. I can tell that I'm getting better as I compare my older photos to my newer ones. It doesn't hurt that I am already an avid Adobe user, so I am familiar with Photoshop, Lightroom and other photo software.
I'm learning how to use variations of light and flash, the ins and outs of ISO, Aperture and other features of Digital photography, otherwise referred to DLSR.
