Seems lighter weight than other mounts (probably because it has less material as a split mount).
Each piece is attachable with ring forward or backward.
Bolts fit snugly, so they won't come loose (no need for locktite).
Visibility through the slot on the underside.
The tight nature of the bolts may seem like a thread mismatch at first.
These do bring the scope to the right height and back far enough for eye relief
and while these are not a expensive set of rings, I do think you should be getting better for $80.
You may have to open up the mounts to get them to fit over a standard picatinny rail. the ones I got wouldn't fit until I got a screwdriver and pried them open slightly.
also these rings don't claim to be a matched pair, but alignment couldn't have been worse..
for all of you who bought these and mounted your scope without checking alignment, and lapping the rings.. I'm going to bet that you warped your scope tube.. Sorry, but if your rings were even half as bad as mine you definitely did.
After I mounted them in place with a alignment bar and lapped them In order to get them straight I have had no issues they work fine and (so far) have held the scope securely, No loss of zero and no damage to the scope.
The hardware that comes with them seems to be of good quality and I was able to torque it down without fear of stripping threads.
I gave them 3 stars out of 5 because the problems with them can be fixed by the end user, and all the aligning and lapping I did on them is something I do even on the most expensive scope rings I buy. I do like them for the fact that now that they are setup properly they are a solid base for my scope.
If these were more expensive bases I would have rated them far lower. but in the end they are 80 dollar rings.
Not the worst set of rings I have seen. but they definitely could be better.
Many rail devices are made with Commercial slop and require tourqe to garantee sucess. I do not condemn this because I have employed it to my advantage but I also employ Tight Tolerance Mil Spec...
I believe these rings and scope were the correct choice for the rifle and use which is shooting paper out to 100 yards even with bump fire for me.
I prefer to hunt Hog with a all custom Glock 3 Gen 17L equipped with a mini Mil dot but I might try this S&W / Nikon equipped M&P with a Nylon sling added this season for comparison. Im sure though I will find for an Old Dude like me that getting through thick Brush and access to my weapon will still be a Handgun.
