I used the down wash as detergent which I am certain that it left the feathers soft and plyable. I also added a laundry soda and borax to help kill the critters and then rinsed with vinegar. Finishing with two more rinses. (three all total). Drying was a whole project. I dried them as delicates on low heat with 6 woolen dryer balls from New Zealand. (see amazon) That was a really special treat and I love them. They are soft, quiet and cut the drying time substantially.
The finished product was essentially brand new and fluffy cushions for my vintage glider project. Then I went on and washed my other down pillows, etc.
I was a bit skeptical in the beginning since I have somewhat expensive jacketS (Duvatica x2) and my gf Aritzia TNA. But Nikwax worked like magic. I followed the instruction and washed them in the laundromat with commercial front load washer, and wash them like regular clothes. Everything worked well! The painful part was the drying. I put them in the dryer, low temp (maybe I should use medium temp next time), with tennis ball, and dried them for 7 mins. I took them out and remove the down clamps, and put them back in the drier. I repeated the steps for an hour or maybe more. Aritzia dried super fast maybe because of its designed with smaller packets of down. My Duvatica, one was 100% dry, the second one was 85% dry (lay dry afterward). After the wash, they looked like brand new, felt super fluffly and smelled great!!!
One thing I would prob do different next time is have the jacket dry 100%. I felt the one which I lay dry still has little down clamping up. But Maybe it will loosen up couple of wear? Not sure...
5 star for Nikwax down wash. It's easy and get the job done as it stated! A must buy even if you want to wash pricier down jackets!
