The section I found most interesting was creating a "beat sheet". Beats can be confusing--partly because different people define them in different ways. For most, beats are a detailed story outline where you can quickly "tell" what happens in the story, and when you actually write the novel you turn these "tells" into "shows". Windsor's approach is to layout scenes--individual and unique locations--and then create beats within each scene.
His generous use of his own novel outlines as examples means you get to look over the shoulder as he's creating his work. Few authors I know have ever shared their outlining process. This book is PERFECT for new novelists, and the bonus downloads will save any writer hours and hours of time.
various aspects of writing. I discovered through this process, that they all are saying basically the same thing but in different ways and using different terminology. Steve Windsor breaks down the concepts and gives you examples with wit and wisdom. I find that a refreshing and fun way to learn. Also Steve is the most generous Author I have purchased a book from. How many books do you have that give you access to a growing data base of tools to add to your learning experience? Hint: sign up to receive his bonus. To quote Steve," No one “way” is the way and no one person can tell you yours. Study hard, learn hard, write hard. Dedicate yourself and do the hard work. That’s what writing requires of you. And that’s what I’m here to help you do." His books will help you along the path to finding "your" way. Ultimately you have to find the teaching style that resonates with you. To use a cooking analogy, some people like Julia Childs and some prefer Rachel Ray that's a personal choice. On your writing journey I doubt you will find a better value.
I've tried outlining before and I just couldn't get it. I've read other books and they all have the same advise in the end; write. My problem is I'm a very disorganized person in life and in fiction. However, I'm a fiend for checklists in business. Ultimately, you've given a checklist to follow and you've explained story structure, in the telling of story, in a way that I've not found it anywhere else.
I've started a new outline, this weekend, with a new original concept and I feel like it's headed somewhere, unlike most of my stories which end up meandering to and fro never to end.
I want to say thanks for being there and treading a path ahead of me. See you on at the end of my novel.
Steve gave the ultimate bootcamp training any fiction writer needs to get the ball tolling on their novel. No one likes the feeling of writers block when you aim to work on the project that will help to define and shape your writing career. In 9-Day Novel: Outlining, Steve brings an aspiring author from a scattered dream story to a well-planned and well-written story executed with deliberate intentions.
With Steve's help I realized the importance of building out the background history and description of my characters through an outlining process so that my readers are connected to them in a meaningful way; ready to invest their time in reading more about them.
I am finally armed with the knowledge needed to get my fiction novel back on track without allowing my thoughts to run amuck because I'm working by the seat of my pants and with no direction.

Having already bought '9 Day Novel: Writing' and '9 Day Novel: Self-Editing', I was eagerly anticipating '9 Day Novel: Outlining' as this was where I was a little stuck. I wasn't disappointed and believe this to be the best book of the series so far. I also found the accompanying brainstorming videos to be very helpful as I felt as if I was a partcipant in the discussion, albeit a silent one. They fired my imagination regarding my own stories.
Looking forward to the remaining books in the series.
