"Nine Facts That Can Change Your Life is a richly imagined, deeply felt and unusually fully realized collection. In story after story, Ronna Wineberg shows her characters making surprising swerves and connections, reaching from the past into the present. I marvel at how much she can accomplish in a relatively small number of pages, and at how these stories stay with me." -Margot Livesey, author of The Flight of Gemma Hardy
"Ronna Wineberg has written lovely stories, threaded through with the themes of American Jewishness: self-hate, self-love, apartnenss, the urgent need to belong. As well as a wisdom and compassion that come only from deep experience--of writing and of life." -John Benditt, author of The Boatmaker, winner of the Goldberg Prize, the National Jewish Book Award for debut fiction
"As Ronna Wineberg notes in Nine Facts That Can Change Your Life, "The human eye is always more than enough." Her own perceptive eye lands on people in the Midwest, Manhattan, Poland, and Germany as they maneuver their way through love and loss. These stories are beautifully written and emotionally complex...Wineberg is an author with heart." -Donna Baier Stein, author of Sympathetic People and publisher of Tiferet
"Wineberg (Second Language, 2005, etc) follows up her novel with this emotional short story collection...There's still more to each story after the author is finished with her characters, and that's what makes this collection so satisfying." -Kirkus Reviews
"Ronna Wineberg focuses on the constant state of flux between lovers, friends, and families in her new collection of short stories. Nine Facts That Can Change Your Life features fifteen vignettes about emotional mutability and the small, silent decisions that precipitate big changes..." -Village Voice

Here's hoping that some of these lives, both female and male, come back in novel form.
For example, in "Matters of the Heart," (originally published in Pennsylvania English) Denise looks around the apartment at the artifacts of their life after her husband has moved out. "She didn't think she would be able to rid herself of his presence. She wandered again from room to room. Intimacy was buried deep, beneath these objects."
Indeed, the intimacy of these stories, often buried deep, welcomes the reader. Sink back into a comfortable chair with this book -- and forget where you are.
.This is RONNA WINBERG'S third publication in eleven years. Her first being another collection of stories entitled, SECOND LANGUAGE, and the 2nd, a novel, entitled, ON BITTERSWEET PLACE. Indeed the concept of "bittersweet" seems to be the realm of Ms. Wineberg's mesmerizing prose. The evolution of her conjuring images of seemingly infinite detail, mixed with her extraordinarily sensitive deftness in characteristic language for each distinctive character in these latest stories is nothing less than astonishing.I've re-read this collection simply to be certain that this reader's banquet is just as delicious upon a second sampling. I was mistaken. It's even MORE SUMPTUOUS! What's more, these tales provide a serious generosity on the part of the author. Not merely does each one sound the ring of truth, but even more priceless, the shared pain and ecstasy of the heart. Do your heart and mind the favor of reading this book. I'll wager you'll be recommending it in short story order!
Wineberg covers the pitfalls of marriage, divorce, aging, disappointment and hope. I really loved this book and will gift to friends.
