There are some parts where I was crying and others so indescribably amazing that I simply couldn't believe how the human soul could possibly endure some of the trials and tribulations that Eva and George (and millions of others went through in WWII.) It amazes me how one human can be so mean to another (i.e. the soldiers can take everything away from Eva and her mother and George when in the Ukraine forced labor camp.)
I swell with pride when I read about how George and Eva assimilated themselves into American culture and came so far from having nothing than so many spoiled entitled people that I run across today.
When reading this book, the author Mickey made me feel like I could visualize Eva and George and their children and the hardships they went through in WWII, she paints such vivid pictures which is a vital component for me in deciding if an author or a book is worth continuing to read. I loved her use of language how she weaves it together so beautifully, it's almost like she's an interior decorator...the way she chooses what words "go " with one another to make pretty strings of sentences or phrases.....that tickle the readers senses. I would often stop and reflect on them and just read certain phrases over and over again and appreciate how they were phrased.
There are lots of twists and turns in this book and it is relatable on many levels for every reader. I highly suggest this book.
In Nine Lives of a Marriage- a Curious Journey by Eva Friedlander with Mickey Goodman, Eva Friedlander candidly shares the ups and downs of her life. An Ingrid Bergman look alike, this native Hungarian found her love in George Friedlander built a life with this good looking charming man.
Her life is filled with highs and lows, but as a devoted wife, mother, and strong women she overcomes whatever is thrown her way. It is a heart wrenching tale about life's imperfect outcomes and the uncertainty of the future.
Nine Lives of a Marriage- a Curious Journey by Eva Friedlander with Mickey Goodman is a honest peek into one woman's journey in pursuit of the American dream.
