Short version: I liked the Blood Daughter Trilogy more, but this was a quick and fun read in the same universe. I enjoy Wil's vampire lore and look forward to reading more of his work.
Though related to the Blood Daughter Trilogy, this book definitely stands alone and requires zero knowledge of the other books. There are brief mentions of events and minor character crossovers that readers of BDT will recognize and appreciate.
Maybe Nate's struggle with morality and his Christian upbringing could have been fleshed out in better detail. It's a part of him I could relate to because of my own upbringing. And I didn't like how quickly he went against what he believed, or how "wussily" he tried to correct his "mistakes." It's like he wanted to beat himself up for what he did and then would flip a switch and be like, "whatever." On the other hand, I can see how going that route would have detracted from the pacing of the adventure.
This story is about a vampire hunter who is beginning his career. There are several wonderful characters spread through out the novel. It is a fairly short read too. If you read Wil's books, you'll get this one. if you haven't read him, this one provides a good chance to find a writer you don't want to miss.
