I got black, and they look like pretty basic riding boots, except for the large-but-not-that-big steel zipper in the back that hangs out. I say hangs out because it really doesn't look like it's supposed to. There are flaps that could close if things fell together right. Too, I'm all about biker boots, and the zipper is just too small for that, but it's too big for a riding boot. Then, in the right heel (back of the foot), the zipper bows out/protrudes even more making a weird lump. I'd say it's bad design - the heel doesn't need zipper, and from the little I know about shoe making, messing with the heel is a challenge most hand-crafters don't attempt. It's just too difficult to do well. All in all it's a zipper fail. It's definitely a noticeable feature on the pair I got, and given the sloppiness and odd size, it really looks pretty bad.
The lower calf is big, too big for me. It tapers in toward the top of the boot. Good idea if it fits perfectly. For the size 5, 5'2, 160-200 lb (granted there are personal differences) is about where I'd personally put these. I might be headed there, but I'm not there yet.
Drat it, I like the rest of the boot, and the wonkiness on the inside is, well, on the inside. I really don't want to keep shopping; I just want a plain & basic pair of affordable leather riding boots.
Also I am sure that is something wrong with this boot, they hurt so bad.
