Power - The base contains a very powerful motor, certainly the strongest motor of all the blenders I have used prior.
Cleaning - Instead of screwing everything together at the bottom of the jar, the Ninja approach is to simply drop the blade down into the jar, where it engages the drive mechanism. Instead of complete dismantling to clean, just pull the blade out of the jar and clean separately. Watch those blades, though - they are VERY sharp, as I learned the hard way.
Blending - all of my previous blenders had a small blade at the bottom of the jar. Not very efficient at blending. The Ninja blade is a tube with several blades going up the length of the jar. Blending is uniform throughout the jar, without getting "stuck". The extra sharp blades and powerful motor makes short work of anything I have tossed into the jar.
Food processing - The unit comes with a chopping blade, slicing blades, and dough mixer. I have not used the dough tool. For chopping, it works great! I make graham cracker and walnut crusts, and I have always done the chopping manually. When I received the Ninja, I thought I would give that a try - I will never do that job manually again! The Ninja chopped the walnuts and graham crackers to perfection.
After trying that, I wanted to make a dark chocolate pudding from scratch. I added several bars of chocolate to the food processor, and again, the chocolate was chopped to perfection! So easy!
For the slicing blades, i have only used the shredder to make shredded cheddar cheese, which worked great.
Single servings - The Ninja system comes with a couple of single serving jars with a couple different caps. Place the ingredients inside, place the cap with the blades on the jar, flip it upside down and place on the Ninja base to blend up a single serving smoothy. Replace the blade cover with the drinking cover and enjoy! We make a lot of use of this.
This system was more expensive than the last blender and food processor put together, and was well worth the cost. I liked it so much, I bought a second one for my daughter's family.
One word of caution:
They make two different and incompatible food processing jars, depending on which Kitchen System you buy. One comes with a cover, and will not accept the slicing blades. The other comes with a food shoot to use with the blades. The food-shoot cover does not fit the jar for chopping, and the cover does not fit the jar for slicing, yet these jars are exactly the same size. With the excellent engineering capability of this company, I find it hard to understand why they could not design a single jar for both setups.
The original set I purchased did not come with the blades or the feeder shoot cover. It just came with the dough kneeler and chopping blade with a cover. Since the slicing blades and feeder cover would not fit the food processing jar that came with my set, I had to buy a second jar, the feeder-shoot cover, the slicing blades, and the center post that connects the slicer blades to the drive. I had no issue with purchasing all that, except the jar. If designed right, one jar should work for all.
So, my warning - make sure you purchase THIS set, with the complete food processor setup, and not make the mistake I did and only get half the food processing capability.
This system is a reasonably priced alternative to other brands selling for much more money, think Vitamix and Blendtec. The Ninja's also received favorable reviews in Consumer Reports. It's amazing the ratings that this system received when compared against products that sell for 3 to 4 times as much money. This unit is rated at 1500 watts/ 2 hp, giving it adequate power to handle any tasks. My wife was surprised that this system included a food processor with blades, the small Nutra Ninja to make glass size smoothies as well as to go cups.
Euro-Pro - the parent company has made it it's mission to develop product lines that provide value to consumers at a reasonable price. Just do a search on the company and there are interesting articles that discuss this company and their culture. .
I have watched the earlier tv info commercials for Ninja bullets, etc, and have always figured that anything with a goofie name like Ninja in it's product name couldn't be taken seriously. I have been proven wrong.
NOTE: Be extremely careful of the blades. My wife dropped the blade for the blender, and automatic reaction, tried to catch it. Three hours in the emergency room, and she has no feeling in her finger for life. BUT...she still loves the machine :)
