As a stand, it works fine. I'm not sure how often I'll need such a thing, but there it is. System is easy enough to attach and unattach, without feeling like it will fall out when you don't want it to. Doesn't add a lot of weight or bulk. Affordable. The pieces are mostly there for a solid product, so I'm not trashing it too harshly with a low number of stars. I just don't find it comfortable, and without that the rest doesn't matter much.
Thanks for your detailed note.
On typical controllers (e.g. the PS3 Dualshock), we need to access the analog sticks, the d-pad and the XO/\ buttons with our thumbs, while also using the index and middle fingers for L1,R1,L2,R2. This leads to slightly titled hand position.
When we were designing the ergonomics of this grip, we wanted to try different options and come up with the most optimal experience. While the slightly-tilted approach of console controllers offer a lot more comfort, it didn't quite fit well around the 3DS shape. Also, when designing this grip we wanted to ensure that all the ports are accessible with the grip on... so the base of the 3DS had to protrude a little bit out of the grip to allow for that access. So, we decided to make it in a way that adds additional support to the palms while also balancing the weight... thus the grips are a bit wider at the sides than console controllers.
3DS users don't have to hold the unit using two fingers in the back of the 3DS base (as they would without the grip), which can add additional strain to the wrists. The grip hopes to mitigate that with this additional support to the hand posture.
Anyway, in short, I have taken serious note of your review and will send your feedback to our design team for future iterations of the product. We're sorry if you have had to face any inconvenience or discomfort.

I have slightly large hands which feel cramped while playing the 3DS without grips. This grip feels nearly perfect. It is perfectly balanced in my hands while sitting in a chair AND comfortable while when playing in bed on my side. I can easily reach and use all buttons (ie: R & L) without any interference from the grips.
It holds the 3DS very secure. I have no fear of it falling out.
The stand is useful and will likely become more useful. I use the stand while playing (non-3D) games with my wife (like Professor Layton). Netflix is supposed to be available on the 3DS eventually and the stand will be great for that (ie: when the adults are using the television and the kids want to watch something on Netflix). The stand also has a slot for an additional SD card.
You can easily switch games, access the stylus, input/remove charging cord (not docked), change volume, turn wireless on/off, and connect your headphones (huge one for me) while the 3DS is secured in the grips.
The only item these grips block is access to the SD card. You will have to remove the 3DS from the grips if you switch out SD cards. I don't think this will be an issue for me, but if you take tons of pictures or have your music library on a card then it could be a pain.
The only thing that would put this grip even more over the top would be incorporating a rechargeable battery into the grips.Read more ›
There really isnt anything bad to say about this grip. I suppose if I HAD to come up with one, I'd say that its much easier to snap the 3DS into it than it is to remove it. Its a comfortable snug fit but can feel tricky to get off. This didnt bother me as it means its holding the 3DS properly but could be an issue if you plan to insert and remove your 3DS from it often.
Would definitely recommend this grip!

While it's not too bad, it's a touch on the small side for me and kinda bulky. I would have liked to try a batarang style in comparison. Read morePublished 29 days ago by Aydn

I can play my 3DS!
Anyone with thumb or finger strain should slap this baby on. I can play games for hours now, as opposed to 15 minutes or so.
