You CAN charge this from a wall outlet, you could even use the cord that came with your switch, you do not have to be playing it for it to charge. I don't know why they're lying about it but they are I literally have it plugged into my wall and it's working great. I had both of my sets of joy cons charged within five hours after I got this and plugged it into the wall . I will even include pictures showing that it's charging from the wall, The reason this upsets me is simply twice I almost did not purchase something because of what I read and reviews in both times I decided to go ahead the worst that can happen is I would have to return it and both times I found that The majority of the 3 to 1 star reviews were made up there was nothing true with it and I'm really sad about that, I don't want people missing out on a great product because somebody is better about a Nintendo product. I will say this and it's sad and it's petty but there are a lot of people in the gaming community who were going out of their way to try to make the Nintendo switch fail and I don't understand it there are problems admittedly I haven't had any issues with my system and I don't know anybody that's had issues with their systems but I have heard reports, but that happens with every product at lunch let's be realistic. back to the point this product works great I am very happy with it I encourage anybody that has two sets of joy cons to get this one charger after that you won't need anything else :-) I've taken pictures with it plugged into the wall I've taken pictures of it in comparison to the grip that came with the system, I've taken pictures of it connected to the switch while charging, I've taken pictures of it connected to the wall connected to the switch while charging,((( now there is one thing you will see that the light is on in all of these pictures , that light don't stay on the entire time it's being charged that light shuts off after a couple seconds it's just like the docking station that light comes on to let you know hey it's in there and then it shuts off while it charging .))) I hope that this helps guys I've just read so much misinformation and there's a lot of people again who were just really hoping that the switch fails and I don't understand it, wey Xbox Nintendo PlayStation and even some random offbrand stuff LOL we have every system dating back from nes every major system I'm not a Nintendo fan girl I just love videogames and I hate when I see things being misrepresented because a certain group doesn't like it

In my case it is particularly helpful since the Switch is not in an easy to access place and I play for extended periods of time so recharging the controllers by connecting to the console is not as practical.
If you buy this, take into account that it comes with the USB-C cable to charge the controller but not with a converter to plug into the wall!

Charges joycon while you play

I bought this because I recently purchased a second set of joycon and needed a way to charge them. I enjoyed using the grip that came with the switch so even though there are cheaper joycon chargers, I thought this would work better for me since you can charge and play. (I do own a pro controller but I have pretty small hands due to being a girl so the small joycon buttons and placement are pretty perfect for me)By C.A. on March 2, 2018

I've included pics of the steps but it's really fairly obvious. Just remove a bunch of screws in a stepwise fashion, remove the handgrip and then use four of screws to close/secure the case.

I have those Switch NES classic controllers for playing old school NES games which can only charge in the Switch. This handgrip controller can easily be modified to fit the NES classic controllers. Just need a tri-point (with 3 wings like a Mercedes symbol instead of the 4 wings of a Phillips screw) and Phillips screwdriver. I used the iFixit kit which has both.By Impetigo on August 22, 2019
