After dealing with several other, cheaper adapters that didn't even work right, I decided to shell out a bit more money and get this one. It works exactly as it should. The USB drivers quickly install and it's good to go. There's even a little red light on top of it to indicate that it is functioning. I plugged in my SNES controller and started up Castlevania IV, and it felt just like playing it on an actual Super Nintendo again. The cord on it is a bit short, which may be problematic for some people, but not for me so I won't mark it down at all. Overall an excellent product.

This very easily could have been a bad unit, I'm unsure, and unless someone else post results I will remain unsure.

The A,B,X,Y,L,R, Start and Select buttons worked perfectly, and it did read the cross pad, just not properly. Instead of registering the cross pad as buttons, it actually registered as a Joystick, not necessarily a problem in and of itself. The problem came in the fact that the right and down buttons were always active. A controller at rest on the X or Y axis regitered 1, left and up registered 0, and actually pushing right or down registered a 3. Traditionally rest should have been 0, left or up should be -1 and right or down should be 1 on the respective axis. As a result this item is unusable on both ZSNES and SNES9x on which I have tried to use it.

I concede that I may have gotten a bad one, in which case it's just bad QC. I got mine in a manner that's nonreturnable, so I'm going to open mine up and see if there's any resistors or POTs I can adjust. This is something I as a tech might be able to do, though unlikely based on most modern manufacturing practices, but something the public at large should not have to deal with.

Additional Edit added after original post.

I've played with this a bit more on other operating systems. It worked great with Linux. The above listed screwed up button pressed values are still there, but operating systems other than OS X seem to deal with it better (well - I still haven't tried Windows). I'm increasing the star rating, but since the X/Y axis readings are still outside the expected norm I'm only increasing it a little.

I currently use a Wireless Logitech PS2 control on my Mac using a Gamecube PS2 XBOX Controller to PC USB Adapter 3in1. It doesn't get much better than that, the above reviewed adapter is currently sitting on a shelf, but I may utilize it in the future on a MythTV box or something. Of course I'll probably just stick with PS2 controls and buy more 3in1's.

Hi there
For those who are reading this review and considering buying the SNES Smartjoy adapter, I was in your shoes about 3 weeks ago. I read alot of bad reviews and some good reviews. I decided to take the risk and just buy this thing. As soon as I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro and launched the emulator, Snes9x, I loaded a rom and immediately noticed that in gameplay, the Down function on the D pad was stuck in that position. Also some of the other buttons would trigger other buttons. I went to calibrate the controller in Snes9x and when the window opened, I could see that even in the software display of the Snes controller, the stuck down function on D pad was showing up on that too. SO.... unless I'm missing a critical step in getting this controller to be compatible with my setup, this was pretty much a useless purchase for me. The Smartjoy adapter hasn't made it to the garbage can yet but I'm sure it will eventually unless I can figure out a way to fix it... but I don't think I'll be able to... my 2cents; just get a cheap usb controller and enjoy your roms without the old school feel of the SNES controller.

Plug it, play it. That's pretty simple and no configuration is required.

It has a bit of lag but nothing unbearable: it is almost unnoticeable in games, so you shouldn't be concerned about that. However, the product described on Amazon *IS NOT* the one you will receive: I believe that SmartJoy stopped producing it ([...]= dead link), so I guess it is no more buyable on any site in the world.

What you will receive is a GTron "Snes to USB converter" that totally looks like the photo of this product, but is not the actual SmartJoy. Even if it is working well, I hate when sellers lie to their customers.

So I've been hours playing my favorite Super Nintendo games at my PC and it's all thanks to this device that made this happen. The SNES USB adapter is suitable for those whom are seeking old-school gaming on their PC with the use of their old SNES gamepads lying about. Well, time to wipe the dust and cobwebs from those old SNES controllers because this device will revive those babies to be thumb bashed again on your computer.

I have NO complaints whatsoever about this device, so maybe if the cord is abit short but it'll work great if you have a laptop or your desktop nearby you at your desk. I'd recommend this being used mostly for SNES emulation programs such as SNES9x for great SNES nostalgic gameplay.

First of all the adapter is made of cheap thin plastic and is easily damaged. i tried using the thing one time and the connection indicator light on it is already broken. but more importantly it doesn't work. it automatically sends signal from the d-pad down and right buttons. at first i thought it may have been my controllers so i picked up two brand new official nintendo controllers. still had the same problem. im going to try another adapter because i personally like the feel of having an original NES controller but at this point id suggest anything other then this product.
