You thought Cinderella's fairy godmother was cool? Just wait until you meet Nissa, fairy godmother extraordinaire. Well...sort of. Nissa is a recent graduate of fairy godmother school and has just been sent on her first assignment. She's ready to go and can't wait to bring happiness and light to the world. But does Nissa get to be the fairy godmother of a poor downtrodden orphan, or a conflicted criminal? No. Nissa gets sent to California to help a teenage girl with her...self esteem. Afraid she won't be challenged by her first challenge, Nissa is upset, until the challenge gets much harder. It turns out that Nissa's true love is her new charge's brother. Now she has to choose, will she give up the job she loves for the boy that just might be her everything?
Bethany Lopez does a wonderful job making fantasy seem like a reality. Nissa is a book that contains teen hijinks, bullying, and fairy shenanigans. While the plot is relatively simple, it by no means takes away the enjoyment of the piece. Sometimes all you want is a beautiful love story, with cute and likable characters, who find their happily ever after. If that is the kind of book you are looking for, you have come to the right place. I loved the mixture of the fairy godmother world with the normal fairy world, and I liked how well the book transitioned from fantasy to reality. A definite must-read for teen readers and even some of us who aren't that young.
