Lucas Jensen is twenty two years old and a sophomore in college only because he delayed going to school and instead helped his sister and parents for that matter with his nephew Noah. Lucas freely admits he was your typical manwhore until his little sister got pregnant at sixteen and dropped like a bad habit before the baby was even born. Lucas saw how devastated his sister Ava was and vowed then he would never treat women like that again. Lucas has not even dated anyone on campus since the girls there haven't interested him enough but when he meets his new neighbor his whole philosophy changes. Lucas is immediately drawn to this feisty girl that seems to hate him on site but he is determined to get past that tough girl act.
Lucas and Andie have numerous ups and downs with the missed connections and angst that I expect in a NA romance. I really enjoyed this first book and will be on the look out for book two.
In the beginning Lucas and Andie have a difficult relationship. Andie has a hard time opening up to him, he knows something has happened and he wants to help. As he starts to slowly get her to open up to him they strengthen their relationship with each. It is beautiful to see them both open up to one another. I loved how Lucas was understanding and watching her come out of her shell. This is a really great read and I was pulled in from the beginning, you will definitely feel all of the emotions while reading this one. I look forward to more books and I hope we get Jax's story next.
Review done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.
This is the 1st book in the Rule Series by Ashley Erin, it is also the first book I have read of hers and I was pleasantly surprised.
The storyline is one that has been done before, but Ashley has put her own original stamp on this trope and has written a beautiful story.
A New Adult Romance based in a college in Canada, Andie (h) and Lucas (H) are dorm neighbours who are very much aware of each other, even though they are both not interested in relationships.
Lucas was the standout character in this book for me. He has is own issues within himself and his family, but Andie continues to draw him in.
He knows she is hiding something from her past, and instead of walking away, he stands with her and beside her - especially after she reveals her painful secrets.
At times this was a hard book to read. Not because of any faults within the book itself, but of the subject matter - reading about a father who cannot, and more shockingly, won't love his daughter.
What I enjoyed most about the story is you watch Andie slowly place her trust in Lucas, opening herself up to loving someone and trusting in that love not only being reciprocated, but being worthy of it.
Ashley's writing has a great flow, with many great characters that add to the storyline. Looking forward to the next book in the series The No Bad Boy Rule.
Lucas isn't looking for any kind of relationship. He's not even willing to look for a one brighter but when he sees Andie and just how hard she is trying to keep everyone at a distance he can't help but be drawn in and break his rule. But is her constant fleeing too much or is she worth the constant struggle to have a future with her?
I loved the characters and the way Lucas shows Andie how a real man treats his woman. In spite of her constant running and holding back from him he keeps pushing and makes him a perfect book boyfriend. Andie being skittish when it comes to men is understandable but the author still portrays her strength over her past as she struggles to push herself past her usual boundaries.
I give this a 5 star.
