This book includes more "Comfort foods" and "traditional entrees" (although her other book has tons of meals that are meant to be eaten at dinner!). Really both books are definitely fantastic purchases, and I recommend owning both of them. If you're new to healthy eating, and only want to buy one book initially, maybe go for this one first because the comfort foods category. It might accelerate the healthy eating acclamation process.
My favorite recipes (so far) are:
Breakfast: Frosty Chocolate hake, Freezer Oat Waffles, Orange-Mango Creamsicle Smoothie
Soups: Mexican Quinoa Stew
Snacks: Cashew Queso
Comfort Foods: Sloppy Joe-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes, Philly Cheesesteak-stuffed Spaghetti Squash, Butternut Mac 'n' Cheese, Vegan Shepherd's Pie
I was most skeptical about the Mac 'n' Cheese because of the butternut squash base, but it was one of my favorite dishes. If you go into it expecting to try new things, instead of trying to exactly replicate indulgent dishes, you'll likely love the results. Highly recommended!
This book has many delicious and very healthy recipes, and I like that she posts most of them on her website as well. The book goes more into her philosophies of food combining and substituting healthier options for old-school favorites like Vegan macaroni and cheese, fried rice, pizza, Chinese chicken salad, jambalaya, Thanksgiving stuffing etc. and boy oh boy the desserts are pretty darn tasty !! She covers all meals as well as snacks, smoothies, salads, and desserts.
Easy to follow, although you will need some tools like a spiralizer, Dutch oven, high-speed blender, food processor. Trader Joe's has cauliflower rice, frozen quinoa, cashew butter, sunflower seed butter etc. if you want to cut corners and are in a hurry to get started. Megan advocates making your own almond milk, cashew cheese etc. but I just don't have time, so I cheat, and the recipes still come out well!
I've lost 10 pounds in the month I've been following her recipes which is an added bonus; I really was doing it to figure out my numerous food allergies, and wasn't overweight so I think it was water and bloat from my sensitivities to rice, corn, dairy, gluten . And when I eat her food, I don't bloat, retain water, etc. I feel so much lighter and better, not tired and weighed down as I used to from food.
There are no calorie counts or food labels provided, which since I was not on a diet didn't bother me, but might bother some. She gives you shopping lists and tells you which meals are kid friendly, which can be made in a slow cooker, which are good freezer meals etc.
Even my husband, who is an extremely picky eater, likes everything we've made so far. Her Paleo Blondies are to die for. Everybody wants these, I can't keep up with the requests , lol.
Highly recommend if you want to get your family to eat more veggies without complaining that they are bland and tasteless. Some of the recipes she offers additions for meat eaters, some of the recipes she offers substitutions to make it completely vegan. There's really a lot of choice.
I was really surprised how good this food was, to look at the ingredients I wouldn't have thought it would turn out so well. Try making a few dishes of her website, if you like them, buy the books :)
I am very budget-conscious, so I love that the cost per serving is noted and the shopping lists are certainly helpful for anyone wanting help with meal planning. I would say this book makes healthy eating a real possibility for those looking to make some changes and it's wonderful for families like mine who strive for healthy eating habits daily. This book is a total winner, worth every penny!
