Heard any of these lately:
"It's too late."
"I don't have time."
"It's her fault."
"I don't think it's worth it."
"I own it."
"I can't help myself."
Excuses, excuses, that somewhere along the way, we have used them. It is time that as men we stop making excuses and remove them from our vocabulary. It seems that when we are confronted with something we don't like or someone points out the real truth about us our response is an excuse, we don't accept the blame because we are men. But in reality because we are men we should accept the responsibility of our past, present and future actions.
Author Tony Evans says all the excuses in the world don't change the fact that God has given men certain responsibilities in the home, church, and community, and the only way they can fulfill them is to stop rationalizing and turn to God for what they need.
Nearly every excuse a man can utter about something he addresses each of them throughout the 18 chapters. Evans pretty much hits them all on the head with chapters on feeling worthless, allowing for immorality, clock-punching, playing the lone ranger, business as usual, etc.
In addition to being inclusive on the subject, Evans keeps the tone and vocabulary that have made him a popular speaker for Promise Keeper events and on a daily radio program broadcast worldwide from Dallas where he serves as senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. He also speaks regularly at crusades, conventions, and Bible conferences around the globe. He doesn't care what race or nationality a man may be, what he cares about are the issues that affect every man.

This book truly takes God's calling of spiritual leadership and integrity of manhood to the level that it needs to be! T.Evans gets a slow start but gets up to speed as stays there as he takes you "to the hoop" with biblical examples and practical applications of changing your life for God and your family. From dealing with the past and bad examples to lust and homosexuality, this book keep me wanting to read more that my men's group had scheduled for that week :-). If you are a man, you must read this book.

Everytime I sit down on the train or ride the bus someone is always looking at the front cover and asking me how the book is or is it a good book. I can bareley read a page before I get tapped on the shoulder and start talking about the book. Today I must have talked to 10 people before I got thru five pages. No More Excuses is a very inspiring book. From No More Hiding Behind The Past to No More Dabbling In Defiance, I wiil be like the Flying Prophet and pass the book on to as many men that i possibly can. Keep on writing these blessed books so that I can keep on reading them. May the Lord be with you

There are so many areas in which a Christian man can fall into tempatation and sin, sometimes habitual sin. All Christians need encouragment to remain faithful, but especially men, and this book is directed toward men and the areas where men frequently fail. Since we all have our own unique character flaws and weaknesses, this book by Tony Evans covers all the bases and gives much needed encouragement to men who desire to remain faithfulness in their daily lives. Tony Evans uses examples from Biblical characters to show how character flaws create disaster for those who succumb to following their worldly desires. We often offer up excuses for our failings, such as "Everyone else is doing it", or "Compared to others, I'm really not all that bad". But Author Evans states that in order to become a Godly man (or woman), we must not have any excuses, thus the title of his book. So while an accountability group is probably the best way to remain faithful, books such as this one are good adjuncts and give insight into what drives sinful behavior and how to avoid the sinful snares. This is a good devotions book for personal study, or alternatively, makes a wonderful group study.

It is not easy to be a Christian in today's society. This book will help those trying to live a faithful, holy, and honorable life.

I got this book thinking that I might learn a few things and I have to say, I have learned many things about what it truly means to be a man of GOD from Pastor Evans. He has help identify areas in my life that I need to work on and through the LORD I will be a better man for it. I can honestly say, this is a book I will keep around and read many more times especially when I feel like I am starting to make excuses for not being the man GOD made me to be. I highly recommend it for any man who has a real desire to be the man GOD made him to be.

This is an excellent book. I bought it for my teenage son and he loved it so much, he has asked for more books by this author. The author's straightforward, no nonsense approach to life in general is excellent. I would recommend this book for any male, young and old alike. It will open your eyes.

Very clear cut that men need to step up, wipe off the past, and get on with doing the right thing in all aspects of their lives without making any type of excuse when they don't.
I could do without the use of "homey" and other slang words when referencing biblical greats, but I guess that's where Tony may be trying to reach a certain audience.
The book is pretty spot on in describing that when men don't do the right, biblical, or even lawful thing, they make excuses that are inexcusable. There may be pathetic reasons we choose to blame for not doing what we are called to do, but reasons are not excuses. If you miss your kid's ballgame that you promised to be at, and you tell him "Sorry, I had more work to get done than I thought" that's a reason that doesn't fly. Simple fact is, you weren't there when you said you would be. Period.
I was surprised that early in the book Tony addresses black men by immediately and bluntly killing the notion that slavery is any excuse these many years later for still calling on it as an excuse.
I always appreciate Tony's straight forward manner of writing. Many scriptures are used to back up what he is saying.
I plan to use this book as an "ice breaker" for a movement at our own church to help men see that their biblical role as a man does not allow for making excuses when they fail. Buck up up and admit you failed. Get up, wipe it off, and get back to doing what you're supposed to do.
