About the Author
Maya is a world renowned teacher of the Warrior path and the author of "No Mud, No Lotus; a memoir of Sex, Betrayal and Spiritual Awakening." At the age of thirty-three, after a lifetime of trauma and life threatening alcohol and drug addictions, Maya began a radical journey into self-healing. She began by diving deeply into 'Tantra' and 'sacred sex' of the West, which landed her in the controversial documentary film, Sex Magic, Manifesting Maya. Overwhelmed with the limiting distortions of western Tantra, she ultimately denounced the work and moved to Ubud Bali, where she took refuge into an organic apprenticeship with a Balinese yogi as well as her practice of the Sikh tradition of Kundalini yoga. There, she wrote her autobiography No Mud No Lotus, which is not only a shocking life story but also an open portrayal of her experiences within the western neo-tantra movement. From her writing she became recognized for calling out the distortion of spiritualizing socialized initiatives and ego drives under the guise of Tantra's name. On October of 2013, still in hopes of understanding the deeper nature of Tantra, Maya traveled to Cape town, South Africa, where she worked with a mentor, Rahasya Advait, who ultimately helped her to realize her innate life-path was that of the Dakini- a 'sky dancer' or female spiritual guide. There, Maya experienced Satori and her days of seeking were complete. There is nothing to do at this juncture but point the way. www.mayayonika.org FB: Follow- Maya Yonika Twitter- Beware of Dakinis @MayaYonika

We can resist, or allow ourselves to surrender into grace. Yonika shows us this, not through preaching or passing information to us, but rather by the simple declaration of her vulnerability, her fallibility and her humility. This is actually a simple little book, that by her example gives us permission to witness ourselves as the author does, and continue our journey to self-compassion and love.
No Mud No Lotus is an honest account where Maya Yonika shares her first-hand experiences diving into the realms of drug addiction, tantra and polyamory. She communicates her story elegantly in a digestible and matter-of-fact structure that allows the viewer to safely introspect and relate their lives to her experiences. In so doing they are able to see their own illusions and motivations for their actions, but also gives them permission to continue their experiences from an awakened standpoint. Through the power of honest communication, Maya shares a story that is at once both deeply personal and widely universal.
We are encouraged to continue to tread the waters we feel called towards, for we alone hold the key to our truth and authentic life path. However, we must hold strong to our discernment as we move forward. Things may not be as they appear.
Thank you a thousand times, Maya, for facing your fears, finding your truth and then having the courage to communicate it to us!
The degree to which men take from the girl-woman, Laural, who aches in these pages to be seen, truly known, is heartbreaking, deeply affecting. And you can't help but cheer when Maya, finding her strength as a woman, refuses, finally, to be bound by the millstone of desire hung on her neck by blind men and demands to be seen! It is a new beginning - not an end to suffering but the beginning of a new life free of addiction to pleasure and the crushing burden of looking for love on the outside.
This delightful book brings a message of hope, and it's a fun, entertaining read. Once I got started the pages turned themselves. It's most natural audience may seem to be women, but it's an even better book for men.
