Had to make myself finish it because it was $4.00. Sort of drug on. The end was so rushed. It was a little off putting slightly ridiculous that they two friends were pushing the h towards an affair?!?!!

Caleb Crawford, New Duke of Camberly, had just returned after ten years away. His father wanted him to be a vicar but he did not feel the calling. He was an excellent architect and had won awards with his designs.
Miss Mary Clemens had been driven away by her parents because of gossip and had fled London. She moved in with two other friends and five orphans and a cat.
It had been six months since Caleb had become a duke and he was feeling cornered. His friend Viscount Aldridge suggested he could go fix the roof of the house he had bought for his sister. He would be away from everything.
This was a simple love story but well written and very entertaining. The characters are enticing and make it hard to put the novel down. The author has taken a lot of care with the tale. I highly recommend this tale.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Oh, how I dislike stories where one of the main character's are not honest with each other. This went on through most of the story. It ruins it for me, because you know how it is going to turn out - secret discovered, relationship ruined.
That is exactly what happened here. Because I was always waiting for the shoe to drop on their relationship, it was hard to see them as a couple.
There is a twist involving the h that I didn't see coming at all. We have only kissing prior to marriage, lovemaking within. Heat level 1.5 out of 5.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, and a small tad of spice. (ljb)

This was a great love story. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to read more about them after they got married, opened their orphanage and started their family. To my mind, you could have added a hundred pages or more to this story and I think it would have been even better. Keep up the good work on the rest of the Crawford series.

I have enjoyed other books by this author, but found this book not up to her usual standards. The heroine and hero engaged in a lot of back and forth nonsense and the characters felt very unidimensional.

When Mary and Caleb meet it's an instant attraction but when she finds out he hasn't been telling her exactly who he is, that's when his troubles begin and he really has to work hard to sort things out.
Oh my. What a wonderful story this was!! It is so full of human emotions which are really believable that you can totally see each scene unfolding as if you were part of it.
Loved the story, loved the main and supporting characters and am definitely giving this one a big thumbs up!

I liked the story but there were several items that did not make sense and made the story unbelievable at times. The language was also more in keeping with today instead of what the characters of that time period would have said. An example would be the misuse of the word "pretty" throughout the book.

A Duke who doesn't want to be a Duke offers to help his friend by going incognito to help him. Of course he meets a woman who does not want to marry an aristocrat. Of course they fall in love, and she feels betrayed. Many twists and turns until the HEA.

Where the Emotion.

The basic plot of this book was enjoyable but could have been much better. I thought the Author lacked the passion in her writing not in the story. When I read a book I liked to be completely taken away by the emotions in the story I love to laugh, cry rage etc with this book I wasn’t. That is why I have give. It three stars only I am onto the 2 nd book in this series as I have purchased all three so I am hoping for more in the next book.

Nice enough story

Rolls along OK, though some emotional depth is missing, especially from the heroine.
Yes, it needs a better edit. I was surprised to read that it had been professionally edited - they're/their and decent/descent errors should really have been picked up.

What a waste of my time reading this novel!!

Not a big fan of this novel - if I could I would give it 2.5 stars, just a passing grade - the story line is unique but dull as dirt - Mary and the Duke are practically dead boring - there is no real adventure or interesting experiences going on - I had to force myself to finish the story - this was supposedly a romance but there was no real spark or sizzle - I will not be reading the rest of the series with what this novel produced
