About the Author
Sarah Tolmie, author of The Stone Boatmen and Two Traveler, is an Associate Professor in the English Department of the University of Waterloo. She received her PhD at Cambridge. Her work with virtual reality and dance explores links between movement and proprioception -- the body's sense of itself and its limits in space -- and narrative and poetic structures and pathways.

I was not surprised that NoFood was conceived by a medievalist, considering its fast/feast theme; it also feels very relevant to us with our fetishization of cooking shows, gleaming kitchens, exclusive ingredients. It all comes off as damning without feeling heavy-handed. Tolmie is especially good at juxtaposition in language, and it makes for an elegant starkness worthy of the title.
