What worked for me - Noah was a fine 20 year old hero. He acted like a twenty year old, and was way more likeable than the heroine. The boxing parts were interesting.
What didn't work for me - So, so much. Noah's first impression of Veroinca was that of an "old lady". Magically, she loses 40+ lbs in a month(how is that possible/healthy??) and is suddenly described as looking Noah's age. She is completely wishy washy about Noah, agonizing over their age difference, which is valid, but then abruptly decides she can handle it, with no clear rationale other than she "loves him." Yeah, I did not feel the love from her. Attraction, yes. She made all of these rules for them, to keep from sleeping with him, so they neck in the hallway every night. Really?? Are they 12?
There is also a completely pointless story involving Veronica's best friend, which only seems to be included so Noah can say that older men can screw up, too, so Veronica should not worry about his age. I mean, if you don't see how this subplot is going to end up, you are skimming this boring story even more than I did. The author is about as subtle as a 2x4 to the skull.
There is another completely pointless subplot involving an ex lover of Veronica's, a real piece of work who bailed when the going got tough. But our stupid heroine still pines over this guy, and hides her rendezvous with him from Noah.Read more ›
Nobody writes Alpha Males quite like Elizabeth Reyes. Noah develops the same posessive stare that declares Roni off the market to his fellow Gym members. Soon, Noah moves into Roni's house as a roommate which quickly ups the intimacy between him and Roni. One of the sexiest things in a romance is when a male character is in love and will stop at nothing to get his girl. Noah decides Roni is his girl and is determined to make her see that age is an illusion. I can't wait for Gio's book, the next in this series. Reyes has developed a loveable and sexy cast of characters that I can't wait to see in future books. If you love Noah, definitely check out the Moreno series!!! There is something about those Moreno men.
For starters, I just can't seem to get Noah & Roni out of my head. Their connection, relationship, & personal hardships really got to me. Being the same age as Roni really allowed me to understand all of her hesitations with the age-gap. I wouldn't dare imagine dating a 20 year old right now. At the same time, I would have seriously fallen head over heels in love with Noah, especially considering how much his past has matured him and shaped him into the loyal man that he is today. Ms. Reyes created two characters that were so perfectly matched it was just beautiful. And then throwing in Roni's ex (Derek) into the story who was 8 years older then Roni, really made you think and put things into perspective. It was genius!!
I think one of the things that I really love about the fictional worlds Ms. Reyes creates is the strong supporting cast of characters. I had no idea where she was going with focusing so much on Nellie's (Roni's best friend) relationship with her husband Rick, but man it was clutch. She really dropped a bomb on me there that I wasn't expecting, although in hindsight all the clues were there. So because of that 'bomb' I totally have a major soft-spot for Nellie and I can only imagine that Ms. Reyes has a greater purpose for her in another book. Maybe Gio's story, Maybe Abel's, who knows? But I know she has a plan and I am excited to see Nellie get some redemption.
Furthermore, the end was just utterly perfect & fantastic. I realize that it took Roni & Noah a long time to get their act together, but oh man was it beautiful when they finally did.Read more ›
