About the Author

Amy grew up in a small dairy town in central Wisconsin and after earning a Liberal Arts degree from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, she returned to her home state (to a slightly larger town) and lives there with her husband, three children and a wild little pup. She has cultivated a way to focus on writing Regency and Western Historicals about dashing, and sometimes dangerous, men who know just how to get what they want and women who at times may be reckless, bold, and unconventional, but who always have the courage to embrace all that life and love have to offer. The rest of her time is spent supporting her kids in their various endeavors, keeping up with the household, and squeezing in some stolen moments with her husband.

Amy Sandas’s love of romance began one summer at thirteen when she complained of boredom. One of her mother’s Barbara Cartland books ended up in her hands and an obsessive interest was born. A magnificent romance with a dash of mystery

Will his past and her rank keep them apart ...

I had this book scheduled first to be released next week, but it seems it was published a week earlier. Why I had to switch my current reading to this one. And no regret as it is an awesome read.

While this story is the first in a series and my first full length novel I have read by the author, I wondered about the hero, there is more to him than meet the eyes.
He appears to have a very precise past, one shared in previous story as the last events prior to this book are very detailed, so I suppose he was part of earlier works by the author.
Yet here at this point of his life, he has reached a major turn. He is now willing to strip of his past to built a new future with and for his daughter.
Mason is as rough and ruthless as they come in this part of the city, he is also one appreciating the pleasure of the flesh and does not hide it, even hinting of it at Katherine. He does not hide he is attracted to her, and teases her with a game of direct banters and hot gazes but she is no deer to run away. He enjoys his time kidding and bickering with her.
Katherine did not have the usual society’s miss raising, she was given more freedom and free access to knowledge than no one.
Why she is not slighted by Mason’s taunting and provocative attitude, she even enjoys it.
She is not perfect, but she is also not one to shy away from a challenge and Mason will become one as time passes by.
One she is very much willing uncover as he presents her with a different option for her future.

It is Bodyguard crosses Regency
I loved how the author gives each main characters time to spread its wings, she is very thorough in the many details from the descriptions of Katherine injuries and treatment or the investigation they must pursue to determine who’s after her brother. And the fight scenes are perfectly described, so much I saw them unraveling like a movie. And let not talk about the sensual part of this book, the last one was magnificent.
And the epilogue while set a short time after the main plot is like an icing on the cake, sweet and lovely.

All along my reading, I was wondering how the brother of a duke could be a marquess, he has no access to courtesy tittle as only a born heir could, so did he do something so grand he was granted a title? But then, why did he live abroad, especially after a scandal...
I wonder if the next book will provide an answer.

This is the first book in the Peril And Persuasion series. It is Mason and Katherine’s story. Mason has been the villain in the fallen ladies series. Mason is a ruthless fighter from the rookeries that has come to a realization that he must change his ways to provide a life for his daughter. Katherine needs help protecting her brother from an ominous threat. Mason takes the job as a bodyguard to Katherine’s brother for the money and references he could get from the job.

Mason cruel exterior hides a passionate man who wants to strive to be better. Katherine cool, controlled exterior hides a fiery passion inside. This is a very passionate love story. It is quite steamy at the end of the book. There is a unexpected romantic feeling to the love story.

The plot moved really well. There was intrigue and action. There is a plot that promises more with additional books. The characters were vibrant. I really have no constructive critiques for the book, it was really, really good. I hated to see it end and now I have to wait until June for the next book! As a side note, if you want to know more about Mason’s sister, Callista, Madame Pendragon, her story is in the Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret Christmas collection. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes steamy historical romance who likes a bad boy as a hero!

Amy Sandas is new to my list of favored authors and I am delighted to have found her. The storyline in this book is tight, moves well and steers well clear of the more formulaic plots in many romance novels. While the characters are distinctly different in temperament, each is engaging and sympathetic in his/her own way. The character of the very young Duke was particularly well-drawn; I would love to see a follow-up story, someday, about what type adult he becomes. This is a book written for adults with an excellent plot and fine writing. I am eager to read more from this author.

I love this world of related novels Amy Sandas has built, starting with her Fallen Ladies series. This book picks up where the last book in that series ended, with Mason Hale having recovered his daughter and "acquired" her 12-year-old protector Freddie because Hale's very young child refuses to be separated from the boy. But Hale is determined to learn where the boy belongs even as Freddie refuses to divulge any details.

As with all the books in this series, there's a mystery to be solved and some very dangerous thugs to fend off. Fending off villains is something Hale is very good at doing, and that skill quickly becomes obvious to Freddie's sister when she locates her brother. What follows is a steamy romantic dance between a woman with both brains and social power and a man with both brute power and survival skills. As it turns out, they complement each other very well. A page-turning romantic suspense!
