Sometimes I like to go into a book completely blind as I did with this book. I really had absolutely no idea what to think about this book before I started reading it. I haven't read anything by this author before reading this book and I am not even sure that I read the blurb before I signed up for the blog tour. I think my entire decision to read this book came from the fact that it is start of a new series and I liked the cover. I hate to admit that I often make a decision to read a book based on the cover despite the fact that I can still hear my mother telling me to "never judge a book by its cover" many times during my childhood.

I knew that this was a romance and I really expected it to be of the light and fluffy variety that I seem to be reading a lot lately. Imagine my surprise when this book turned out to be anything but light and fluffy. I didn't realize this book would focus on such difficult issues and I found myself really sucked into the story quite quickly. I really had a hard time even putting this book down for even a minute. There was just something about Lucy that really got to me.

Lucy is a recovering alcoholic and she has returned home to Willow Park to help her mother and face her past. Lucy was a wild teenager and has quite the reputation in her hometown which is why she hasn't been back since the day she left so many years ago. Lucy has changed and wants to help her mother deal with her father. She also wants to make amends for all the harm she has caused in this town as part of her recovery.

Richard is the boy that Lucy loved during her teen years. She broke his heart when she left town with someone else nine years ago. Richard is now a doctor and he actually treats Lucy's parents among others.

It's not too often that you find a romance novel that's alive with real characters, with flaws and all. This book is a perfect example of what honest-to-goodness contemporary romance should be, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Hegger has for us next.

I loved Lucy's character. She was strong, determined, and brave. She faced her demons and grew up, never blaming the world for anything. She's a wonderful example of how strength comes from within. Richard is an equally flawed, but worthy hero. His flaw, if anything, is that he's too trusting, which means when he's hurting, it's hard for him to forgive. But Richard and Lucy belong together. They make each other stronger, more fun, more human.

Often in romance novels I find myself getting annoyed by little things, small inconsistencies that stack together to drive me bonkers. This book had none of that. NONE! Why? Because the author stayed true to life. What a breath of fresh air. Keep it up Ms. Hegger!

This little gem of a book has made my list of top favorites. A friend really loved the book and I took her recommendation to heart and eagerly devoured this book. I can tell I'm enjoying a book when i don't even bother looking at the percentage left and this book had me hooked from page one.

It tells the story of former wild child Lucy who has come home to help her mother with her ailing father. Lucy left town in a blaze of glory, so to speak and she knows that her return will be unwelcome. A recovering alcoholic, she is working on her 12-step program and wants to make amends to those she hurt.

One of her victims is former love Richard. And they literally run into each other and find those old feelings and old hurts are still there. Sarah Hegger weaves this present story with small glimpses into the past and we see how the past has shaped Lucy into the woman she is today.

You hurt right along with her as she tries so hard to atone for the sins of her youth. You want everyone to forgive her, but you can see why it's so hard for some of her old friends, enemies and families are having such a hard time letting go.

Lucy is a heroine that you root for and want to hug. You hurt right along with her and you find yourself proud of her for doing something that you know cannot be easy. And Richard, you feel his pain and his reluctance to get sucked back into the whirlwind that is Lucy. Amazing, romantic read that had me begging for more. Cannot wait for Book #2 in this series.

This was one of those books I couldn't put down. Ms. Hegger created a main character who you sometimes dislike because of what she's done, but you're always rooting for her get over the hurdles she faces. Bravely so, in fact. A return to ones past, where you've left it in a shambles and on a very bad note, is extremely hard to do. And yet it's exactly what the heroine, Lucy, does. The past is everywhere and inescapable. I could feel Lucy's shame, but can't deny being annoyed by some of the things she did back then. Still, there times she offered apologies and was rebuffed. Then I hurt for her. Saying sorry is never easy. This took me on an emotional roller coaster, but a good one where I never gave up hope.

This book moved beautifully through watching the characters face personal demons, old and new romance, family issues and friendships from the past. Can't wait to read another in this series!
