For a book that was written to be a novella, and turned into a full-fledged novel, it was a very enjoyable read. Did their relationship move a little fast for two tortured souls? In the real world, yes, absolutely. I would never encourage a close friend who has personal demons to marry another who has just as many issues after only knowing each other for 2 weeks. But in a world where we all love to lose ourselves in her characters (or any author's characters, especially when they're part of a series) it was perfect and very Kally. The book has a HEA ending, and could be read as a standalone, but I have no doubt we will be reading more about these characters in future books, learning how they heal each other, and battle back their demons together. Because this book was written to be a standalone, you will not get to read much about previous characters/relationships in the series. Did I miss them? Sure. But I'm also reasonable and I take the description of the book seriously, so when I see "standalone", I know exactly what kind of book I'm going to get; a book that isn't going to be mentioning beloved characters in the series very often if at all. Well done Kally! Can't wait to read more.
With this book she took me from to break my heart as she never done before, to make me laugh so hard. I got to say that I ADORE Megan. She became my favorite heroine in the series so far, not that I don't love the rest, because I do, they all are strong, amazing, and brave women. Megan know what she wants and she's not afraid to do whatever it takes to get it! and she got it!
Ryder, oh gosh! that man broke my heart in so many pieces. The guilt eating him up is heart-wrenching. One could thought that after reading several stories of Marines suffering from PSTD, the heart would toughen up, but nooooooooooo. I think, at least in my case, my heart breaks easier. Definitely, I got a thing for torment and wounded heroes. I can't resist them.
This book got plenty of good plot twists! That I remember there are at least 2 or 3 moments that I didn't see coming. At first, I thought I had pretty good idea to where things could go, but I was so wrong. Love that feeling when an author surprises you in ways you don't expect.
Being an standalone novel, unlike the rest, this book is a great entry to the Rescue Me series for those unfamiliar with it. Of course I advice them it's a lot better when you read ALL the books from the beginning [FYI: a bundle with the prequel and the 1st novel in eBook you can get it FREE] that way the little details we get of the other characters in the series get a whole new meaning. Believe me!
If I was desperate to read Dream before, now I am ever more!!
And talking about wanting the books coming next, OMG! after Dream I NEED that Kally starts working on the other series she promised us, the one where Grant's story is, Pamela's novella (another promise from Kally) can wait. I'm so desperate need to know the deal about Grant. The tiny bit she was on this book made my curiosity about her go beyond the roof... way up!!
This book has a different feel than previous books in the series. The first half could have been any home front military romance, but the second half is more like what I expected from Masters. Strangers, Ryder is a trained, but rusty, Dom, while Megan is well read, but inexperienced. Ryder also has a different path toward healing: a Native American sweat lodge ceremony and vision quest propels him on his journey toward reintegration and sets his focus on what is important. I always learn from Master's books and this one was no exception. I am looking forward to the next book and can't wait to see what Megan and Ryder' s reaction is when they learn what Adam's business really is. This book gets a 4.5.
