Q&A:
Q: I got a loud hum with T11.
A: At first, we have to clarify that all phono preamps have a certain of background noise. It won't be loud, while a little loud is normal. Besides, there are many factors.
- Reason A: T11 isn't connected to ground well.
While the device is playing music, picking up the GND copper part of T11 with your fingers. If the background noise is much lower, then T11 isn’t connected to the ground. For this issue, we prepared a 3m wire in the package for you to solve it by yourself. Just use it to connect the GND with any large mental item in your home like windows or mental tables.
- Reason B: T11 doesn’t match with your amplifier well.
Digital amplifiers cannot be connected to the ground directly, which may cause T11 much noise. For this issue, you can just set the T11 GND switch (on the back of it) to OFF. However, this will lead to bad noise from T11 itself as it is not connected to the ground. You can only choose the bearable way. That’s why we recommend using professional pure HiFi amplifiers (no Bluetooth will be better).
- Reason C: The RCA wire has a poor quality.
A good RCA wire will be equipped with an anti-jamming magnetic ring, which can effectively reduce various interference.

The packaging it came in was no frills but got the unit from China in perfect condition. The fit and finish is excellent as expected for this price point - you will not be ashamed to have it sitting next to a upper midrange turntable. Internally, most of the wiring is accomplished on a printed circuit board, making it a cleaner look, but there are no transistors. For me this is not an issue but for those who like to tweek their equipment, this makes that harder.
For now, I have settled on a Russian 6C4P-EV rectifier tube and 3 matched PSVANE Art series 12AX7 amplifier tubes. With this setup, I can turn the volume knob all the way up without distortion and they run cooler than the factory tubes.
Since this is an RIAA phono preamp, it boosts the bass frequencies from a moving magnet phono cartridge per RIAA specifications so don't take the output of this preamp to the phono input of your reciever or it will double the bass levels. The output of this preamp is considered line level.
I am very happy with this little amp and if you are looking for an entry level tube phono preamp, I heartily recommend it.

Straight out of the box I had awful hum and crackling with the stock 6N2 tubes. I knew going in they were not going to be great so I swapped them out immediately for a triplet of JJ tubes. Hum and crackling gone like that, no need for the silly extra grounding wire in the box. I've got a couple others to try some tube rolling with but if you have humming issues I'd say go right for some new tubes. The power tube in the rear seems to have very little effect on sound as the uplift didn't require a replacement. I still use the metal tube covers on the front but I don't notice any difference with them.
The only other issue with this thing is the overall design of the product - as a whole the case is pretty nicely finished though the footprint is massive compared to the Mani it replaced and more importantly all the phono jacks are inexplicably on the front. I'm going to have to cable manage it properly to keep it from looking too ugly, but I knew this shortcoming coming in.
I had originally considered the pro-ject tube box S2 but at double the price and not being pure tube driven like this one, I decided to give the little bear a go. For the price it's proven to be a solid choice. Sound quality is crystal clear with that faint tube "warmth" to boot.
Would overall recommend as long as you know going in that the design works for you and there's some budget for new tubes.

Edit 12-7-19. I just changed this to be a buffer between my Kenwood Basic C2 preamp and Kenwood Basic M2 amp. WOW what a difference from my system. It now sounds like a 220W tube system. Crazy good sound. I tried this after reading some reviews of the iTube2 as a buffer. That thing has 1 tube, the T11 has 4 so it must be better, right? YES IT IS.
Rather than the music, I heard a pumping/pulsing sound from my speakers... not normal! I powered everything down and reseated the tubes only to hear the same thing... no cool.
I have other tube gear so I grabbed three 12ax7 tubes from another amp and inserted (and switch the tube selector for the correct tube type... no pumping or pulsing just a nice sound (they are good tubes).
Like others, the product design on this piece is a joke with how they placed the RCA jacks and the ground terminal on the front; it ruins an otherwise nice piece looking piece of gear. If I decide to keep it then I will do some internal grounding to get rid of the alligator clip ground (the unit should be *internally* grounded!)
I will expect the seller to reach out and replace the tubes with known good replacements or I will return this preamp. The sound is good but arriving with junk tubes along with the questionable product design inclines me to return it... for $220 (plus another $100 for decent tubes) it should work out of the box.
Top reviews from other countries

As others have noted, the design is a mess. Having all the RCA/GND connections on the front is just dumb. Makes for ugly wiring arrangements.
The sound is really nice. I have this in between a Rega (2016) P1 table and a set of Kanto Yu4/Sub8 speakers/sub. The Yu4s have a built-in pre-amp and that is what I had been using. It works, it's not optimal. The sound was muddy, lacked clarity and definition and didn't have the richness I wanted.
Those problems seem like they'll be resolved by adding the T11. On first spin, the sound is rich and full. There's great definition and clarity. The tonal range is very good. The music has a presence it didn't have before. I expect this will improve over time as (a) the stock 6N2 tubes get broken in and (b) I try switching out for some 12AX7/12AT7 tubes.
Some others have noted a lack of bass. I don't find that a problem. In fact, the low end coming out of the Kanto Sub8 is more intense and clearer than it was before. At similar volume levels, I get a more pounding feel from the sub than before.
Re: the dreaded 'hum': When powered the unit on I had no shields over the tubes. There was a *very* slight hum that you'd get from any electrical device. Tube components, in particular, will have a natural hum. If you've played guitar and used a tube amp, you know this. The fan on my Internet modem in another room is louder. This hum is *not* impacted by the gain control and is completely undetectable when music is playing. It can be eliminated by touching the GND terminal. Again, it is inaudible when music is playing and is *not* affected by the gain control.
When I put my fingers near the V1 tube (and just the V1 tube) while it is powered a more evident hum is heard. Actually a buzzing rather than a hum. When I place one of the aluminum shields over the V1 tube (and only the V1) the buzz is much louder and it *is* affected by the gain control. Using the included ground wire attached to the shield and the GND terminal on the unit completely eliminates the buzz. In short, the buzz is really not a problem and, at least in my case can be eliminated entirely if desired. Given that without the metal shield it is so slight as to be undetected when playing music, I may just run the unit without any shields on the tubes at all, or will use the clear plastic ones. The included ground wire is an inelegant solution and adds to the ugly wiring appearance along with the RCA cables.
On a different note, Douk claims its only option for shipping in Canada is to use Canada Post once the unit arrives in Canada from China. That is unfortunate because Canada Post is a disaster. It took a week for the unit to arrive in Canada from China. It then took Canada Post a month to get it to me. They lost it/sat on it for two periods of 2 weeks each. If you order this, expect to wait a long time to get it due to the ineptitude of Canada Post.
UDPATE 1/23/21: I swapped out the stock 6N2 tubes for some 12A*7 ones. Groove Tubes (owned by Fender) 12AX7 in V1 and V2 and an Electro-Harmonix 12AT7 in V3. When placing my fingers close to the tube in V1, no buzz. When I put one of the aluminum shields on the V1 position, no buzz. Better quality tubes make a difference. The sound with the 12A*7 tubes is even better. Better tonal separation and clarity. More definition, particularly in the low end with deep bass notes, especially the kick drum, being clean and distinct. Adding better tubes is going to take the all-in price of this unit up by about $100.
