  • Due to the slim 23mm heat sink and the NF-A9x14 low profile fan that measures only 14mm in thickness, the NH-L9 stands a mere 37mm tall, which makes it ideal for use in compact HTPCs or Small Form Factor cases that offer minimum clearance for CPU coolers.
  • The NH-L9i has a 95x95mm footprint that complies exactly to the Intel LGA115x socket keep-out zone. This means that it won't cause issues with chipset coolers and doesn't overhang the RAM slots, so it's fully compatible with tall memory modules.
  • Most Intel LGA115x based mini-ITX mainboards have the PCIe slot sitting right next to 95x95mm socket zone. While larger coolers that exceed this zone are likely to block the PCIe slot, the 95x95xmm sized NH-L9i provides full compatibility with PCIe cards.
  • The highly optimized NF-A9x14 premium fan features Noctua's proprietary AAO frame as well as sophisticated aerodynamic design measures. Supporting PWM for fully automatic speed control, the NF-A9x14 allows the NH-L9i to stay remarkably quiet.
  • Allowing to reduce the maximum speed of the NF-A9x14 fan from 2500 to 1800rpm, the included Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) makes it possible to achieve near-silent setups using CPUs with less than 65W TDP.
  • The NH-L9i bundles a custom-designed, back plate-less SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA115x that offers extended compatibility with mini-ITX boards and makes installation easier than ever, all while maintaining the trusted SecuFirm2 quality.
  • Noctua's much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a well proven pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease-of-use and outstanding reliability.

Product Description

The NH-L9i is a premium quality quiet CPU cooler for Intel LGA115x based HTPCs and Small Form Factor systems. At a super-low profile of only 37mm, the NH-L9i is ideal for extremely slim cases and due to its 95x95mm footprint, it provides full compatibility with tall RAM modules and VGA cards on mini-ITX mainboards. The custom designed SecuFirm2 mounting system for LGA115x makes installation a child’s play and thanks to the highly optimized NF-A9x14 premium fan that supports fully automatic speed control via PWM, the NH-L9i runs remarkably quiet. Topped off with Noctua’s renowned NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-L9i fuses everything users have come to expect from Noctua’s larger coolers into a super-compact package for slim HTPC systems.

I searched the net and found a review of this saying it was not really any better than the stock Intel fan. It looked smaller though so I ordered it for a tiny ITX build. The review I read is a load of crap as this works much much much better. I haven't just eliminated heat issues but I can now overclock to 4430MHz in a tiny ITX system with full stability and no heat issues. This fan rocks! You can't hear it and it works awesome. It is barely any higher then my ram. Very low profile for small builds.

Configuration:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K, M/B: Gigabyte GA-H87N Chassis: Chenbro SR30169T2-250

Cooling Performance:
I'm very happy with the performance of this cooler! The stock Intel cooler saw >100C when loaded by stress on Linux (while stress --cpu 8 --io 4 --vm 2 --vm-bytes 128M --timeout 3600s; do sleep 10m; done --- in bash), and up to 80C at idle. While the specs say that is in range, I decided to try this cooler. What a difference! 40C to 60C at idle (no external load), and same stress load pattern rarely peaks to 80C. That's more than 30C off the low-end and more than 20C at the high-end. I've been cycling full load for 1 hr with 10 min breaks in between for 2 weeks to burn-in the system, and it is performing very well. The heat load from a 1 hr run can be dissipated fully in 3 min to 5 min, depending on how long the 120mm front case duct fan runs at peak speed (1400 RPM) before calming down to idle (1000 RPM). Ambient room temperature never fell below 75 F, and has gone as high as 87 F. The stock Intel cooler showed a disturbing secular trend of growing peak temperature during a 1 day of 1hr-10min cycle testing, which I stopped when peak hit 105C. Noctua's cooler does not display this trend, and 82C seems to be a sharp upper bound. I attribute the very small/rare excursion above 80C to ambient temperature swings and brief exposures of the chassis to direct sunlight.

Pros:

• Doesn't touch my RAM
• The heatsink looks very premium
• Works with my Intel Core i5 3570K
• Comes with a nice little case badge
• The heatsink has an amazing build quality
• I get better results with the included NT-H1 thermal paste than with Arctic Silver 5

Cons:

• The NF-A9x14 fan died on me and Noctua had to send me a replacement
• The mounting solution is kind of annoying since you have to remove the whole motherboard in order to get to the screws at the bottom of the motherboard

Low noise, easy to install, good cooling performance at stock speeds. While this cooler is recommended for 65w TDP processors I am running it on a 95w TDP processor with very good results. I do not overclock which made this the cooler for me. No need to get a large, heavy , pain in the neck to install cooler. In my opinion this is the best cooler available if you are not overclocking. It also comes with quality thermal paste so no need to buy separate.

I have two itx rigs running nearly identical hardware (asus maximus impact vi motherboard + i7-4770k cpu), but different cases. I could not fit a liquid cooler into my other case, so I went with this Noctua.

One uses the Corsair liquid cooler (H60i) and on the other this Noctua. Both are cpus are overclocked to ~4ghz. The Corsair runs about 5 - 8 degress celsius cooler on average.

I am very pleased with the Noctua as it is nearly silent and very efficient at cooling. The only noise I hear coming from the case is the power supply fan.

You simply won't! For any Intel CPU with a TDP of 65 watts or lower you'll never find anything better constructed, designed, or thought-out as this unit. Nactua are masters of heatsink design and efficiency. They produce one of the only open air heatsinks that can dissipate the heat generated by AMD's monster chip the FX-9590 with a TDP of 220 watts. Take my advice and buy this IF you're using any Intel chip with a TDP of 65 or lower which includes *ALL* i3 processors. This is especially effective at handling the i7-4770S in small form factor situations.

Works really well and even the packaging was top-notch. It made installing it a breeze instead of most things you have to mount/install where it is just a bag of parts this was all laid out and made it easy to see what I had and hold what I needed until I needed it.

Fantastic, luxurious, silent, and icy cool. I test dozens of coolers under 40mm for my system integration gigs and custom SFF system, like the NFC-Systems S4 Mini. This is the best bi-directional cooler under 45mm that I have seen by a far margin. It is expensive, but worth it. The fan is very quiet and I am glad because many of my systems are built for small radio and television studios and are unisolated.

This works beautifully in the NFC-Systems S4 Mini and I highly recommend it.
