I have a Corsair 350D which is quite a small Micro-ATX case and 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance Pro Ram. The NH-D15S fits in without me having to remove any RAM and I can still use my top PCI-E lane for my GPU. With my overclocked i7-4790K I'm seeing 75c under peak load while the fan remains inaudible.
It came well packaged and the cooler and contents were surrounded on all sides with closed cell foam.
Very happy with this cooler!
The design of the Noctua D15s removes the limiting need for low profile ram that you would normally be forced to buy with such a cooler. This allowed me to snap up a great deal on some Corsair Vengeance RGB.
Now the real question, does it cool well?
Running Prime95 with AVX instructions my 8600k overclocked to 5ghz reaches a max temp of 85C on its hottest core.
Keep in mind that this on a non delidded cpu running the unrealistic AVX instructions and the 85c is the highest recorded on one of its cores.
In day to day use you will never get close to those temperatures and if I run Prime95 with AVX off my temps drop to max 70c under full load. Gaming temps are in the 60's.
This is easily beating most AIO coolers. Take a look for yourself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr0qLLv3dKc) This is a smaller Noctua beating AIO coolers.
You get what you pay for springs to mind here and I can assure you that you are buying the best there is.
The results have been beyond my expectations and then some (and this is from someone who already uses a lot of Noctua products).
Temperatures at idle dropped by a staggering 15-20 degrees, and under load? Again, 15-20 degrees cooler than the stock Wraith cooler. And this is in a fairly small mid tower case to boot! As if that wasn't great enough, the noctua is also much, MUCH quieter - the excellent fan rarely needs to spin up by comparison, and when it does, it's still whisper-quiet.
As far as clearance goes, you can see the indentations made to accommodate for RAM when looking at the unit, but to my surprise the height of the unit is such that these weren't even close to needed - there's no 'down to the wire' for RAM clearance with this, I suspect, unless you maybe have truly colossal sticks.
-Performance is incredible
-Noise levels are phenomenally low, and a pleasant type that's non grating
-Brilliant design that lets the huge thing fit where you might not expect it to
It's huge but fits well in my case. Even next to a case fan, two sticks of ram on the nearer slots and a large Asus steix 2080 gpu. (Using a 2700x ryzen with included amd mount)
It's also insanely quiet. Even on full load I cannot hear a thing. Really impressed and this brand definitely lives up to its hype. It definitely is a beast but I quite like the brutalist look and feel more than assured my CPU is in good company with this cooler.
Can finally run heavy rendering and not even have to worry about things getting too hot or being annoyed by the stock wraith cooler regularly getting loud. Feel reassured this cooler will keep my pc running for many years and easily will be a cooler I can use on future builds/upgrades.
