It’s a premium product for a premium price. If you can swing the price the cooler is definitely worth it. It was packaged well, easy to install and it works. Keeps my 13700K cool while gaming. I keep coming back to air cooling due to the noise associated with AIOs. Noctua is the best around when it comes to air coolers and this thing does it’s job. My temps range from 30 c idle to 45-65+ C while gaming. Ease of installation, low noise, looks and performance are the reason I keep coming back to this cooler.

The only real con is the price, it’s not cheap but it’s probably the best 120mm air cooler on the market.

I have used Noctua cooling products exclusively over the last several years of building PCs for myself and for my family, friends and clients. There is always a consistent level of quality that comes from Noctua that has more than served me well. I just completed another DAW PC build using the Noctua NH-U12A chromax Black CPU cooler. I used this cooler on an Intel i9 processor and an ASUS motherboard in a 4U rackmount case with 3 other Noctua fans. This system now runs much cooler than the prior i7 based system I had running for my recording studio. This massive heat sink with two 120 mm fans gets the job done. The only slight issue that I encountered but I fully anticipated was the height of this unit in terms of the 4U rack case. It did fit but without any room to spare for the top of the case. There was a slight bulge where the very top bullet shaped protrusions of the cooler were slightly touching the top of the case lid. I remedied this by installing a 6" x 6" fan vent in the top of the case. It probably would have been fine the way it was but I did not want to cause any stress on the processor. Noctua now makes a special CPU cooler for a 4U rack enclosure but I preferred the two fan and larger heat sink of this particular model. All things said and done I am extremally happy with this product for my studio needs in terms of being dead quiet and being able to keep my system cool. The installation was straight forward and the instructions were intuitive and easy to follow. This is a well engineered and designed product that is well worth it's price tag. I am sure it will render years of reliable service as all of the prior Noctua products I have used in the past.

I'm running a Ryzen 5800x in a cooler master nr200p with a panel extension bracket for the glass panel. There's a ventus rtx 3080 sitting right underneath this cooler. The NH-U12A chromax.black is set in the intake configuration with 2 top lian li unifan sl120 fans for exhaust and 2 arctic p12 pwm slim fans for intake at the bottom. My pbo boost settings are PPT 125, TDC 82, EDC 130 , with frequency curves set with 2 best cores at -15 and all other cores at -30. Running cinebench 23, I have all cores at 4.625 and max temp never went above 79C. The fan curve was set to around 1750rpm at max above 75C. It idles around 37C. A week before I got this cooler, I tried the thermalright peerless assassin 120A. Its a nice svelte yet beefy dual tower cooler. I used lian li unifans on that instead of the stock ones. Unifans are rates at 2.50 H2O/, stock only had static pressure of 1.5 H20/ so I didn't even bother with them. I also used noctua's h2 thermal paste for both of these coolers. With the same pbo settings, in Cinebench 23, it had all cores at 4.5ghz and a max temp of 82C. Unifans we're also set to 1750 rpm. The unifans were much louder at even 1500 rpms than the noctua fans at full blast. I was perfectly fine with the thermalright. Unifans looked really nice on it and putting 1 fan in the back instead of the front allowed me to still see the Corsair platinum dominator ram and performance was decent enough for this CPU in a sff case. But I was one of those who were waiting on the NH-U12A chromax.black for 6 months. So when it came out a week later, I just had to check it out. I'm so glad I did. It is so much quieter, temperature drops down way quicker and idles 6C cooler. I should've tried the noctua fans on the thermalright heatsink but didn't real think about it. But considering the $46 thermalright price and $60 for the Unifans, you're right in the area of the NH-U12A chromax.black anyway. This cooler was worth the wait and the hype is real. Highly recommend.

At first I was going to do an AIO route for this second build and decided on the Noctua NH-U12A Chroma.Black for the simplicity and quiet operation to cool down my Ryzen 7 5800X.

*1440p test review*

Test 1: 5800X (PBO enabled) paired with Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition.

Result: Not good to be honest… on idle it’s around 57C-65C and gaming on avg is around 82C. Fan noise is audible and annoying. Definitely a hotbox machine. However, it’ll get the job done until you get better cooler or an AIO.

Test 2: 5800X (PBO enabled) paired with Noctua NH-U12A chroma.black edition.

Result: It’s great! On idle it’s around 43C-50C and gaming on avg is around 72C. Fan noise is a quiet hum. Heat dissipation is pretty good so far. Not as much as a hotbox heater. It looks super clean and having RAM clearance is a plus!

Overall: I think it’s a great option for those looking for a simplistic build, quiet operation, and a stealthy vibe approach. Thermals are great depending on your PC case, CPU of your choice, fan curve, CPU tuning, and case fan set up. Installation process is smooth and the manual guidance is easy to follow along. Great packaging/goodies from Noctua is 10/10.

Muchas reseñas hablan acerca de que Noctua es sinonimo de calidad y vaya que tienen razón. Buscando en su pagina web para ver compatibilidades y estadisticas de rendimiento, vi que este disipador era apto para refrigerar sin problemas mi procesador (el cual debo de decir, es muy caliente si no se le regulan los niveles energeticos desde la BIOS) el cual a maxima capacidad llega hasta los 75 grados, con regulación en BIOS no pasa de los 60 grados. Hace un poco de ruido pero no de maneras ridiculas como otros ventiladores de otras marcas o incluso enfriamientos liquidos con respecto a la bomba o los ventiladores del radiador. Recomendado 100%, incluso puede que algunos piensen que al ser mas pequeño que sus hermanos mayores será menos efectivo pero por su construcción y los ventiladores de 120mm especializados para el enfriador, harán que valga la pena (aparte de tener mas espacio tanto para memorias RAM o la anchura que hay entre placa madre y la tapa de tu gabinete).

One of the best air coolers in the market but expensive!

The U12A is a great air cooler albeit the most expensive one. I use it in a small mATX case (inwin 301) where airflow is poor. Does a great job cooling an r5 3600 idling in high 30s to low 40s. In cinebench r23 max temp 74 degrees and while gaming up to 78 degrees max spike. I know the 3600 is not hard to cool. The U12A gives slightly better cooling performance than the wraith prism. About 4-6 degrees delta but it's much better at being silent. At 100% max fan spin, while audible it is not very loud. I've also used this cooler with a 5900x in the same case and that CPU is a hot one! It can cool the 5900x in cinebench r23 at high 70s to mid 80s and idle at around 45-50 degrees. While gaming I saw the 5900x temps spike really high. CPU package up to 89 degrees and CCD1 go up to 93. That being said the U12A chromax black is still a great cooler that I can easily recommend. If your case is limited to 158mm cooler height and you're thinking about purchasing this... do it, you won't regret it.

This is an excellent air cooler for powerful processors on resources intensive tasks. Installed on i9 13900, that took 20 mins watching youtube video with plain instructions. Check the specs of cabinet to ensure no space issues. I have Corsair 4000D accommodating this cooler easily.

Results were astounding. On stress test CPU was stable at 80 degree Celsius and on ordinary usage it was below 35. Does the job perfect.
