Blog postIt’s #ThrowbackThursday. Today’s repost originates in March, 2019 and is centered on why you should write a series. An appropriate topic as I begin to write book six of the Rory Harper paranormal mystery series, and as book five, NonScents, is now on pre-order. Why you should write a series Do you write a series?...

When a duel between a demon from the past and a power-hungry witch claims my keen sense of smell, I lose my self-identity.
When they also steal the myth’s magic while mine grows bigger, I’m caught in the crossfire of jealousy and anger.
The myth want my power. So does the witch-demon.
The murderer who I crossed? He just wants my life.
Their magic spikes, dives, then vanishes, to reappear in me, blowing my own meager powers out of the water.
I’m Rory Harper, part elf, part human, part everything else, a man with a keen sense of smell I use in my fledgling private investigation business.
Then I start seeing visions, and a goblin dies at my feet. Soon, the myth lose their magic, allegedly stolen by the Stormkeeper, a demon from the past. When their powers appear in me, unbridled and addictive, the need to stop him becomes my responsibility.
How? I’m not sure, but I’ll do what I always do when trouble finds me—follow my nose.
Something stinks at Myth, Inc.
I should know. I’m part elf, part human, part anything else, and my keen sense of smell is legendary at the largest employer and governing body of the not-quite-as-magical-as-they-once-were myth.
When a dead troll turns up in my lab, I recognize the murderer’s scent—a vicious beast that shreds its victims.
But Myth’s Investigation Crime Unit has their own suspect—my part-time assistant, whose werewolf traits neatly match the evidence.
With the tenacious and beautiful pixie, Kix, at my side, my reputation at stake, an innocent man jailed, and a killer on the loose, I race to uncover the truth before another myth falls prey.
I’m more than ready for the challenge.
They don’t call me the Schnoz for nothing.
I solve crimes with my sense of smell.
After a difference of opinion, I left Myth, Inc., the largest employer and governing body of the not-so-magical myth, and hung out my shingle as a private investigator. In the middle of winter. On the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.
Business has been slow.
Then my ex-boss walks in, needing my discrete help on a personal matter.
Before I can jump on that with no enthusiasm at all, his sister, Kix, for whom I carry a torch, is found half dead on an icy sidewalk. Her companion is missing and later discovered near the shoreline, a bullet hole in her skull.
When a second woman is killed and the similarities between the two cases can’t be dismissed, I’m pulled back into Myth’s sphere to help solve the murders.
With a possible serial killer on the loose, and my extraordinary sense of smell providing the only clues, can I catch the murderer before he kills again or completes his unfinished business with the love of my life?
Last week, the part-elf, part-human, part anything else discovered a dead troll in his lab at Myth, Inc., the largest employer and governing body of the not-so-magical myth.
Then he found the body of his boss’s boss.
He only solved one of the two murders.
On the bright side, he found the girl of his dreams. Too bad she ran out on him.
This week, he’s juggling a new job and a raging case of jealousy. Plus, Myth’s police force asked him to use his extraordinary sense of smell to solve a kidnapping.
Then ignored his advice.
As Rory searches for the kidnapping victim on his own, the clock ticks down. Can he find him before time runs out? Because it’s running out fast.
