It is a sappy, corny story about a young adult woman named, Noelle Christmas, who hates her name due to tragedy that occurred on her birthday, as a child, which is on Christmas day. Then, her fiancee' dumped her, also on Christmas.
As a professing Christian, she is very selfish and lies repeatedly throughout the story. This one just doesn't have the writing for Christian fiction.
Later, she meets two brothers, James and David, both who make a play for her. She kisses both in the same night. Too much information about their kisses and thoughts. I don't want to hear about the moans during/after kissing. This is just not what I expect to read in Christian fiction.
I cannot recommend this one.
Tamie Dearen writes wonderful and wonderfully flawed characters. Noelle is no exception. Underneath her many defense mechanisms, Noelle is loving and caring, and very vulnerable. She's been hurt, and is so afraid of getting hurt again. And her reality is more than a little bit skewed. Don't we all know someone like that?
More than just a romance, Noelle must confront both her fears and her misconceptions as she weathers temptation, heartache and a spiritual crisis—finding herself in the process.
One of the things I really liked about this book was the ability to weave faith in the story without the need for lengthy prayers or blocks of scripture sprinkled liberally throughout. It's romantic fiction, not a sermon, yet the love of the Lord is apparent and the end of the book is uplifting.
I loved it when the author has Noelle's wise father tell her that holding herself responsible for bad things happening around her is really selfishness. If we believe each of us has that power, then we're not trusting that God truly has control in our lives. Thank you, Tamie, for a lovely Christmas romance filled with tenderness, healing and love. I hope this wonderful book brings you joy during this Christmas season.
