I thought that the "gripper" arms would close in front of my phone to secure it on the charger, instead they clamp onto the sides of the phone and are positioned such that the one activates the camera button on my 928. It does wirelessly charge my phone, it does have an installed driving app that activates via NFC but the cradle is not deep enough or the grippers high enough to properly secure the phone without activating the camera. Once the camera activates, I push the home button to exit camera mode and can use the charger but the camera button remains depressed while the phone is in the charger. Until Nokia comes out with a wireless car charger specifically designed for the 928, I would not recommend purchasing this one.
UPDATE: I contacted Nokia and obtained a factory replacement for the defective unit and so far it is functioning perfectly. The ratchet mechanism seems to feel sturdier and it is keeping up with phone use/power draw while the phone is in the cradle. I'm easing this up to 3 stars and will update again in a few months to see if it holds up.
2nd update: Three months later and the replacement unit I got from Nokia has been working perfectly. As I said in the previous update the ratchet mechanism seams sturdier and holds my Lumia 920 firmly. I bumped it up to 4 stars based on the second unit. It would be 5 stars if I hadn't had to return the first one.
+ QI in the car!!! I know some jeeps have this built in, i love the idea of a wireless future!
+ NFC - hopefully Microsoft will get their act together and make NFC able to launch some apps and turn on some settings, and also get rid of the ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT NFC dialog box. (see android + tasker app for reference on how this COULD work)
-Mount is designed for the dashboard NOT THE WINDSHIELD. The arm on the mount is very short, though adjustable, it is hard to get in a good spot on the windshield. Mounting disc with adhesive on bottom is provided, but it is rather large (size of suction cup) and hard to find a spot on my dashboard where it will sit nicely within reach.
-The suction cup has some sticky goup on it, looks like it might degrade over time if you don't pick a single spot and keep it there.
-Uses a custom power connector, so my usb cable i had prewired through my dashboard has to be ripped out. This is the same connector as the Nokia Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate for Lumia 820/920 - Black. They give a cable extension to run the power connection more permanently throughout the car.
-NFC works by tapping the phone against the dock before docking it. If you try to dock the phone in upside-down, it will constantly try to connect to the NFC tag.
-Also, using this dock while in the summer heat, using a gps application make the phone get REALLY hot. From my experience the phone will not charge if it exceeds a certain temperature so make sure to mount this near some air vents!
-For Verizon Lumia 928 users: Grab a case for the phone that make the camera button flush with the case. This way the dock does not activate the camera. Works this way for me ;) This might be the reason for delayed release in USA?
