Want to know more? Here's a deeper look at what you can do with Quicken WillMaker Plus:
The heart of every estate plan is a will, also known as a last will and testament. This legal document puts you in control of who inherits your property and who would assume guardianship of your children if it were ever necessary. Without a will, state law will determine these issues. Your will allows you to name an executor (personal representative) whose job it is to see that your wishes are carried out. And you can appoint a trusted person to manage property left to young people. With Quicken WillMaker Plus, you can revise and update your will whenever you like.
Your Health Care Directive
A health care directive spares your loved ones difficult decisions by laying out your wishes for medical care and naming someone to carry those wishes:
- Health Care Power of Attorney: permit a loved one to make important medical decisions for you if necessary
- Living Will: Specify whether you want your life prolonged through artificial means in certain circumstances and set out your wishes about specific medical treatments and procedures
Your Final Arrangements
Plan a funeral or other ceremony and ease the burden on your loved ones. Describe your preferences for burial, cremation, memorials, obituaries, and more, and select someone to oversee your final arrangements.
Documents for Your Executor
Make sure your executor has all the forms and instructions necessary to do the job: checklists, letters, notices, claim forms and more.
Information for Caregivers and Survivors
Organize your estate so that your survivors don't have to. Use these documents to give them information about everything from bank accounts to the names of people you'd like contacted in the event of your illness or death.
Personal Finance Documents
Over a dozen forms let you handle common financial situations, such as lending or borrowing money between friends or family, creating a bill of sales, and ending a credit card account.
Home & Family Documents
Practical forms you can use every day to help run your home and keep your family safe, including authorizations and agreements, promissory notes, limited powers of attorney, and child and elder care forms.
*Estate planning documents not valid in Louisiana or U.S. Territories.
Top Customer Reviews
This software is comprehensive. It includes everything needed - including the Living Trust - something that is imperative if you want your inheritees to be able to avoid going through the anguish (and expense) or Probate.
Yes, it takes time. I did it in a series of five sessions with our financial information in front of me for reference as well as older and now obsolete versions of these documents. It compares rather favorably to the time we spent organizing our data and then actually sitting with the attorney.
Nolo has produced a broad range of "do-it'yourself' legal documents. This package is, I think, among the clearest, most user friendly (the built in guides and tips are extremely helpful and easy to understand). Moreover, it is something that most people actually need at some point.
It is never too early to prepare these things and editing/changing them in the future is pretty straight forward. Why pay an attorney exorbitant fees for doing something that anyone who can follow directions can do for themselves? THe more complicated the estate, the longer it will take and, to be sure, some people's situations may require porofessional assistance. The small percentage of people who need that should certainly get it.
For most of us, this Nolo software is exactly what the doctor ordered... and what the estate planning attorneys hope you never discover.
Buying this is a very smart $40. investment.
User interface is great
Easy way to make an accurate, important document
Introductory video is clear and informative
Free updates are automatic
Currently, Amazon price for CD with book ($36.94) is reasonable; software available as download-only from NOLO site for $34.99, or with CD for $51.99.
Package includes abridged edition of "The Legal Answer Book for Families"
Free updates are only available through end of 2012
This program is still not available for Mac OSX
The data from my 2006 files were lost when it was opened in this version. (downgrade for this)
No upgrade path readily available; software is valid through 2012 only (updates no longer available after 2012, but software should still run, albeit with possibly outdated data).
Registration purportedly includes:
* Expert technical support
* Significant discounts on Quicken WillMaker upgrades; and
* A $10 coupon for purchase on nolo.com
What I got was:
* a free electronic download of "101 Law Forms for Personal Use";
* a coupon code for 15% off items at nolo.com
NOLO press is famous for creating easy-to-understand legal books and software. I previously used WillMaker 2006 and found it to be a good, solid program that was relatively painless to navigate. This edition is somewhat improved from that version. The software automatically looked through my files for any old versions of my will and asked if I wanted to open the one it found. The file was opened and supposedly translated from the old version to the new format automatically and made available for editing.Read more ›
When I use this program, I really feel like all of the information I need to answer the questions is right at my fingertips, and so it gives me increased confidence that I am getting what I need (legally) from it.
We had the Financial POA reviewed by a local attorney, and he said it looked fine to him, except that he had a couple of suggestions, which were easily accommodated by going back and making a few minor changes using WillMaker.
Second, in a first run through, I entered the names of my grandchildren using nicknames. Later, I tried to update it, using first, middle and last names. I ended up with two entries for each child. It took me a couple hours to figure out how and where to delete the duplicates.
Third, my wife and I each have children and grandchildren. That means we each have step children and step grandchildren. The supposedly easy method for making a "duplicate" will for a spouse does not work for converting children to step children and visa versa. Unfortunately, one discovers that by trying it and then redoing it for the spouse.

Own it, but can NOT use it. Fails to work on any Linux based OS and seems enslaved to the Windows systems and B.G.
