If you are looking for a brush to work with your iPad/already purchased tablet and want to actually feel like you are painting, then this is the way to go. The long tip is great for more abstract/larger area work and the really short tip is great for detail and everything else (I use this side the most). I cannot stress enough how much feeling like you are painting is a great motivating factor when using my device to create art. Like picking up any new medium it takes a little time to get used to but it is so well worth it.
After using this brush and the Artrage app to create my first iPad painting, I emailed the owner of NomadBrush a copy of it and he featured my painting on the Nomadbrush.com art gallery! I do not mean this as a plug, the message I am trying to convey is that the immense attention focused on the product is also focused on the people who use it.
I cannot recommend this product enough, to people who are looking for a unique experience on their iPad/Tablet to make art.
I loved working with it, as a practicing professional artist using a brush seems intuitive for me. The brush moves smoothly over the screen, and is thus much better than a rubber tipped stylus, which can tend to catch and skip. The long brush attachment was excellent for filling in background, or for broad sweeps of color, and the Glide Bevel Tip gave good accuracy for finer, more detailed work. You could hand write notes with the Glide Bevel Tip if you wanted to, although other styli might be better suited if this is what you are looking for in a stylus.
If you love drawing and using art apps on your iPad, you wont be disappointed with this product. I can see that if you were trying to use it for everyday navigation, and as a general purpose stylus, then you could get frustrated. In any case, this is not the intended use of this brush stylus.
It definitely gave greater versatility, and more control, than my finger for drawing. There was no skipping, or jumping on the lines I drew. Yes, there is some lag, but that is the iPad's issue, not the fault of the brush.
Unlike others, I didn't find I had to press overly hard, except perhaps while navigating around the app, and I saw no damage to my screen even then. I don't use a screen protector. Having said that, you should always clean your screen with a micro-fiber cloth before you use any stylus. Most screen damage is caused by particles left on the screen that are scratched into the surface when you move the stylus around, not by the stylus itself.
The reality is that the development of styli for use on tablets is in its infancy, and I think we all look forward to further advances in this particular field. I think the Nomad Compose is an excellent step in the right direction, and I commend the company for their great product.
I agree with previous reviewers who suggest that if you want greater refinement for your drawing, then pay the money for a Wacom Cintiq.
All in all, I found this an enjoyable and effective product to use, and I was really excited by the results I achieved. It has quickly become indispensable for me while drawing on the iPad. For sketches on the iPad, using an art app, I highly recommend it.
I decided to keep the brush, and have used the long tip for sketching, drawing, painting, and writing on my iPad. It does a decent job getting the strokes right but it isn't nearly as precise as a real brush or a pencil. If I want to make swift short strokes, the Nomad brush ends up missing some strokes because it can't keep up with my speed. There are times when my iPad's screen doesn't sense the first stroke of the brush, so I have to reapply it, which is frustrating. All in all, it is an okay product, but I don't find myself reaching for my Nomad brush every time I want to draw on my iPad.
Now that I have tried using the Nomad brush with a long tip, I think a brush stylus with a shorter tip might be easier to control.
