Product Description

Talisman is a game in which you take on the role of a heroic adventurer, building up your strength, wisdom, and wealth in a quest for glory. Talisman Prologue brings all the fun of the classic board game and more to the digital realm. Talisman Prologue is the first release in this exciting adaptation of the classic board game.

The legend begins with a single-player series of adventures designed to invite both veterans and newcomers to explore the land of Talisman. While multiplayer gameplay will be available in upcoming expansions, Talisman Prologue focuses on creating narrative depth through its single-player campaigns. The story unfolds as the player rolls dice to move around the outer, middle, and inner regions of the board. Each space will require the player to draw a card or resolve a special effect, leading your hero to encounter monsters, discover friendly followers, and gather treasure.

While Talisman Prologue uses the rules of the board game, there are some differences in the gameplay. The biggest new addition to the game is the introduction of quests. In the classic board game of Talisman, the goal is to reach the Crown of Command and claim it. In order to provide a varied, rich, and story-focused experience each time you play Talisman Prologue, you play one of fifty unique quests for each of its ten characters. The quests have goals that the player must complete in order to lead his hero to victory. You may be tasked with saving a damsel in distress, recovering a powerful artifact of legend, or fending off an immense horde of monsters!

Talisman Prologue is very well made. The art is beautiful, the few animations are nicely done, the sound is decent, and the board game rules are implemented properly. The game, though, is rather pointless. It is not the full board game. There are no AI opponents. Your only competition is to better your "time" (number of turns played) from previous attempts at each quest. Quests are things like "increase your strength to 8" or "slay all the dragons on the board". If you've played Talisman much you know how wildly random the game is, so bettering your time is not a matter of skill but luck. Maybe some people find it enjoyable to repeat the quests hoping to get "better" die rolls, but I find it senseless. Prologue is a great demo of what will hopefully be a first-class computer adaptation of the board game some day, but as a stand alone product I do not think it is worth owning.

This is a great way to learn the rules of the core game, but didn't feel like a complete game. Hard to say if it was worth the ten dollars; I played it a lot, but when I bought it I didn't realise how much would be missing. I'd wait for the complete version that's apparantly coming out, if I were you.

I have been playing Talisman since the 2nd edition and Talisman prologue took some getting used to. Once I understood the "quest" system for each character I found I really enjoyed playing the the various challenges using the same rules as the boardgame. I give it 4 stars because it was fun but very limited in overall content. I am very excited for the multi-player Digital edition of Talisman due out later this year that will include all the expansions from the boardgame.

Great! Very true to the board game. The added twist of quests makes it even more playable as a single player game. The only ting missing is multiple player action. would be nice if two or more could play together on one computer based on turns. Maybe throw in computerized players to make it more diverse. How about expansion packs? City, Dungeon, etc?

You can't always gather your friends around for a board game night, so Talisman Prologue fills the need for playing Talisman in those times. It's a great representation of the board game with all of the artwork bringing the game to life. It does a great job of teaching newcomers to Talisman how to play and for this price can be seen as a great interactive rulebook.

You play through 50 quests in the game using 10 characters from the board game. Each character has 5 quests to play through and each quest is designed to teach you how to play effectively as that character. Each quest takes from 5 - 20 minutes to play, so it's great in short bursts, whereas the board game can take hours!

If you like Talisman, or fantasy board games in general, you'll love this.

This PC game is simply a board game made into a PC game. They've added some fun sound effects (bear cards growl at you) and some good background music, but mostly, it's a very well-done board-game-to-PC-game conversion.

The dice roll is satisfying and the game itself is interesting. But if you don't like board games, you won't like this.

The game is played by rolling a die and moving around a board like Monopoly (except you can go left or right -- your preference). You then follow the instructions on your space. A few have shops or special random events, but most of the time you have to draw a card.

Cards can be a blizzard to slow you down. They can be a sword to make you more powerful. Armor to protect your life points. A pixie to help you roll. Or, more likely than not, a bad guy to kill.

You kill bad guys by looking at your strength # vs their strength #, then each rolling a die. The total sum wins. If you win, then you get "trophy points" equal to the number of "strength" on the bad guy. Once you get 7 trophy points, you turn them in to increase your strength.

Your objective will be to do something like kill a specific creature or find an item. If you beat the game, you get 1, 2 or 3 talisman points based on how fast you beat the quest. You compete against yourself to get better at the quests.

The game starts with access to just one quest and one class. After you beat a quest, it unlocks more classes and more quests. There are 10 classes with 5 quests each, making 50 quests total.

This game is only single player. The sequel will be multiplayer.

Overall, it's a fun and cost-effective way to play a board game if you like playing board games solo. If you only want to play with friends, wait for the sequel or just buy the real board game:

Bought this on spec and I am loving it. It's a great way to explore the abilities of the game characters and get to grips with the game rules without picking the manual up for every move! Can't wait for the multiplayer version but in the meantime this is a lot of fun. Hope they do some more Quests! After playing this I had a lot more fun playing the real board game with friends. I also heard rumour it's coming to tablets and smartphones!?
