The NESDR Mini 2+ is tuned for SDR usage, including a high-accuracy, Japanese fabricated, GPS-rated 0.5PPM TCXO crystal; re-designed RF-suitable power supply; and improved capacitors and inductors compared to generic devices. Power consumption has been reduced while improving sensitivity and lowering the noise floor.
A high quality telescopic antenna and strong magnetic suction mount base included free of charge in order to facilitate a wide variety of antenna mounting options. A free female SMA adapter is also included at no cost for those looking to connect SMA antennas to the NESDR Mini 2+.
The perfect device for learning software defined radio, on the cheap. Amateur radio, ADS-B, police & fire scanning, trunking, satellite images--you name it, this little guy can probably do it. Outperforms many devices 10x its cost!
These units are based on the R820T2 tuner IC made by Rafael Micro. This provides substantial performance improvements over R820T. They have a frequency capability of approximately 25MHz-1750MHz, though this can vary slightly from unit to unit. There is also an RTL2832 (RTL2832U) IC on board of course, which acts as the demodulator and USB interface.
The connector type on the antenna and USB board is MCX--male MCX on the antenna, female MCX on the SDR.
Want HF too? Take a look at the Ham It Up which will allow you to listen all the way down to 100kHz or lower with impeccable sensitivity.

The dongle comming with improved quartz what I can confirm. Also the new rtl chip gives about 5dB gain comparing to the previous version. I really like the telescope antena (perfect idea). The only concern I heve is the sentence: "improved capacitors and coils", sorry but I don't see any improvements regarding LC in comparison to the standard dongel. NooElec plese claryfy this. After fast check all of them are the same in standard and plus version. Another think is the price 30$ for a quarts is a bit high (not moded dongle is around 9$). Also NooElec pleas be more precise in your modification because bottom side of pbs was covered with soldering droplets (not that profesional). For these point I only give 4 stars. The device works perfectly!!! (for 5 stars) the time of delivery perfect 1 weak to Poland (5 stars).
I've successfully decoded broadcast analog audio, audio walkie-talkie, and digital walkie-talkie radios using P25, as well as ADS-B aircraft pings. The receiver bandwidth is selectable to give you a larger waterfall but the higher bandwidth means less audio quality when you select a frequency to tune. If a USB 3.0 version of these SDR radios ever comes out I look forward to super wide waterfalls.
The one thing that might cause you problems is that, in spite of its traditional, larger USB dongle size, the antenna connector is the very tiny MCX female jack, so if you're upgrading from another device that uses SMA, be sure to find some converter cables. NooElec has a new model which is a miniaturized version of this hardware but is a little more expensive.
NooElec's SDR not only bet but far exceeded my expectations! Mine came with a small telescoping antenna - while not the best, it at least works better than the tiny stub that others include to get started! On top of that, the stability is rock solid with the temperature compensation. I'm left wishing I had put the money toward a another of these instead of the other basic units.
One thing worth noting, the error on my unit was 0.6-0.7 PPM error according to "Kalibrate-SDR", slightly above stated spec. More testing is needed to determine if this is "warm up" or fixed, but it seems worth mentioning. I'll take off 1 star (wish I could give it 4.5 star) for that being outside their stated specs, but that is still top-notch.
My only complaint of this item is that it uses the MCX connector. Spend a little more money and get the SMA connector.
it is very reliable and easy to use with the public drivers that are available.
you can use it to listen to the radio, read transponders from planes, read smart meters (electric, gas, water).
make sure you take this type, that is slightly more expensive but has a more robust crystal for better fine tuning into the frequency and remain in lock.
