Brand new re-design! The NESDR Nano 2 are custom-made by NooElec for SDR applications, though they will still function as quality DVB-T receivers where signals permit. The enclosure was also re-designed to assist in maintaining lower temperatures than the previous generation.

The tiny size and 24/7 capability makes the Nano 2 perfect for Android, iOS & embedded applications! How small? Just 24mm x 21mm x 8mm (15/16" x 13/16" x 5/16")!

Working on a remote installation? Building an ADS-B station? This is probably what you want!

As with other units in the NESDR series, a full 1-year warranty is included at no extra charge. We guarantee antenna protection will be present so that your new investment will not be quickly destroyed by spurious ESD. And, as usual, we perform extensive QA on every batch sold.

The accurate crystals, and high-quality capacitors and inductors we use for production assist in lowering the noise floor, increase stability and improve longevity.

The NESDR Nano 2 is based on the R820T2 tuner IC, which means an approximate tuning range of 25MHz-1750MHz and improved selectivity and sensitivity vs. other SDRs. There is also an RTL2832 (RTL2832U) IC on board of course, to provide basic demodulation and USB interface functionality.

Full compatibility with a wide variety of popular SDR software packages, such as Matlab, HDSDR, SDR Touch, Planeplotter, SDR#--too many to list, really. We're talking Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Raspberry Pi...you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere you can't use these!

The connector type on the antenna and USB board is MCX--male MCX on the antenna, female MCX on the SDR. There are plenty of adapter and adapter cables available in our store if you want to connect your favorite antenna!

Overall I give this a 4 star review as I am slightly concerned over how hot the device runs while using it and how long the device may last before it could burn out. I don't know it's operating temperatures should be and so it maybe well within tolerances. It probably could use slightly better heat dissipation designed into it. However, with that one caution noted, it performs exactly as described and is a great little unit to scan for radio frequencies across a wide range of the RF spectrum. Software and driver install could be a little easier but performs well.

Device works out of the box with Linux and Macintosh, if you are looking to get it working on Windows most people use a 3rd party driver installer called "Zadig", it is possible to install the device by manually selecting the drivers in the device manager directly.

Go to Device Manager right-click on "Bulk-In, Interface" > Properties > Driver Tab > Update Driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Universal Serial Bus devices > WinUsb Device > WinUsb Device then click on next to install the drivers. Windows might complain but click on Yes anyway.

For my surprise, drivers... for linux it was a breeze.. for windows , it was kind of a problem, but when you search a little and read a lot, the solution was there. also the antenna base was really weak, had to open the base and put some hot glue to make it stick, at the end an epoxy mix was the way to go. Also the signal using this antenna was somehow limited, so my advice buy an mcx to sma adapter (https://www.amazon.com/DHT-Electronics-coaxial-assembly-female/dp/B00CP17WMG/ref=pd_sim_504_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=31Q6jniv9vL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=ZVTCF3HZ6TN0DV57XGJA) and upgrade this antenna

Great entry level radio. I still haven't gotten it to work with SDR#, it takes some extra configs or .DLLs or something to read the unit. Just haven't gotten around to it. The CubicSDR program on NooElec's homepage works great, surprisingly well on a tablet with touchscreen. It's not fancy, but it doesn't have to be. Pretty intuitive for kids and beginners. It does get warm, and the included antenna base really needs a magnet or doublesided tape or it falls over. I'd spring the extra $5 for the TXCO unit, since this has very definite temperature instability until it warms up. But it's still amazing that something this small can do what it does.

After getting familiar with it, I will have to tell you that it is important to plug it into the motherboard and not a USB hub, otherwise you will overheat the device. OLD REVIEW
This is a really cool and compact SDR, but I suspect a thermal design issue. After about 20-25 minutes of running it on HDSDR, it disappears from the usb devices list. When it finally gives up, I measure 130.9*F on my fluke 179 at the copper RF connector of the nano 2. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this if it's not the 24/7 device they describe. Maybe I just received a bad unit. It's a shame because the size and appearance is awesome.

Cheapest and easiest way to get into SDR

Can't beat this for the money, but it runs warm. There is a tremendous amount of support in Linux for the RTL-SDR dongles, so you'll be up and running quickly. This doesn't go down far enough for HF Ham bands (it's almost totally deaf below 50MHz), but you'll enjoy listening to VHF and UHF, FM Radio, receiving ADS-B messages, and whatever else you'd like to listen to.

Adjacent signal rejection is poor, and the 8-bit A/D doesn't help with its poor dynamic range. This is easily desensed by nearby signals. There are also no front-end pre-selectors. But, what can you expect for this price?

I bought this to use with SDR touch on an Android phone. Amazingly sensitive and worked first time which is more than can be said for the software. Big problem with this SDR is heat. The device overheats and stops working after 5 minutes (or less depending on ambient temperature). I am using this device in an Air Conditioned office in West Africa. The temperature in the office is 24'c
To prove a point I used freezer spray and the device started to work again until it overheated. I am comparing this to the NESDR Smart SDR which is in the next slot.I use the smart with Ham It Up converter or as a seconf VFO in another instance. It doesn't matter if the device is used solo ro along side its big brother, it gets super hot and shuts down. I will try the device without its case and probably with a heatsink.

A good aerial is essential for best performance so a 'pigtail' adapter may well be needed between your aerial system and the unit. A pigtail is better than a solid adapter as it reduces the strain on the USB and NooElec sockets
