I held back the fifth star because I don't like how easily this ink bleeds through paper. I have yet to find a paper that it does not bleed through. I write with other fountain pen inks (and brands) and this isn't usually a problem in my typical notebooks. When I write with this ink, I can usually only use one side of the paper.
1) Plastic bottle is horrendously hideous.
It looks almost identical to a bottle of Ibuprofen! If you blast through two bottles a week, maybe you'd prefer plastic. I only jot down only 30 words on memo pads everyday. A bottle of ink may last years. I don't want to look at this bottle for years. When 1 bottle cost $15, I expected tradition. I expected that ink bottle would look as classy as $15 Pilot Metropolitan pen I ordered. Noodlers, please consider that you are not selling a dye to a silk factory in Bangladesh. You are selling to me, who just want a splash of color in my little cubicle, not a bunch of Advil bottles. I beg of you to back to glass bottles. I want to see the color inside.
2) Decal showing the name of the ink wasn't even attached to the bottle.
The paper box was designed for a square glass bottle, and cylindrical bottle was tad bigger. As a result, label just rubbed off of the bottle. I knew that Apache Sunset isn't water resistant. But the label isn't either? It looks like the glue for the label had smudged the label. Seriously, a piece of clear tape would have worked better. I might have to write down the name with a marker, since the plastic bottle doesn't show what's inside.
Is this the best America has to offer? I would have returned it right away if I had a bottle of Pilot Yu-Yake (sunset). With the plastic bottle, Apache Sunset is right between "I don't like it" and "It's okay." I do like the color. With naked eyes, the orange doesn't seem all that pretty. For some reason, in photos, it looks much better. If I'm going to keep this, I think I'll spend $13.99 for 12 empty 4oz glass bottles ($1.17 each). Since the label arrived off the bottle, I'll just stick it on to an empty glass bottle. I wish Noodler had figured out a way to do this, instead of me doing it. My disappointment is partly my fault for being so excited to spend $15 on orange ink (the most I've ever spent on ink!). And it basically came in a same kind of bottle as an Advil bottle.
