This pan is exactly what I was looking for. As a high school and college Spanish student, I enjoyed the decorating of sugar skull cupcakes as part of the Dia de los Muertos celebration, and wanted to share the tradition with my family. We tested these pans out (several months early) yesterday and they were even better than the ones I'd used in school. The pan has a nonstick coating, but I used cooking spray just to be safe after my high school cakes got stuck to the pans I used back then - but now I think it may not have even been necessary. The cakes popped right out when I flipped the pan over!
A typical cake mix will probably produce 12 of these rather than 24 as traditional cupcakes would, and may require an extra minute or two of baking time, but if you're paying attention that is no problem. Fill them to about 1/2 to 2/3 for an ideal size. We used a funfetti cake mix and piped on icing and came up with these charming and delicious cakes. Love this pan, would definitely recommend it!

How It's Made
Our beloved Bundts are produced with lots of hand touch and care, ensuring that they will last for a lifetime. We've perfected this process over the past seven decades--there is a lot of science behind created the best Bundts on earth! At the die casting facility, molten aluminum at temperatures of over 1200 degrees F is ladled into a chamber where an arm rapidly pushes the liquid aluminum into the die (mold). This takes place in a fraction of a second, and the aluminum solidifies as it hits the cooler mold. The two halves of the mold open up, releasing a very hot but solid aluminum Bundt pan.
The pans have razor sharp 'flash', or left over aluminum, that is protruding from the perimeter of each pan. The flash is trimmed to a rough perimeter before the pans are sent to our main processing facility. There, they undergo a series of secondary finishing processes, including vibratory deburring in a chamber of ceramic pebble, shot blasting with stainless media to 'roughen' the parts, and a perimeter routing in a CNC machine to smooth the edges and trim out handles. Next, they are thoroughly washed, and then sent to coatings to be sprayed and cured with PFOA-free premium nonstick. By the time a Bundt pan has left our factory, it has been touched by nearly two dozen sets of hands, ensure that you're receiving the best Bundt pan in the world.

Nordic Ware was founded in 1946 by a determined wife, Dotty, and her resourceful husband Dave, newly back from the second world war. With only $500 in their pockets, a few good ideas and a desire to create a business of their own, a humble kitchenware company was launched from the basement of their home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the beginning, Nordic Ware’s product line was only a handful of items, all of which were specialty Scandinavian ethnic cookware products. But times have changed! 70 years later with a good measure of perseverance added, Nordic Ware is still proudly manufacturing the vast majority of its products in Minneapolis. First off if you can purchase this pan before Halloween definitely do it to avoid the dreaded out of stock or delayed order, other than that this pan was well worth the $26 I paid for it the price tends to deflate from $21-32 before September it is definitely worth it since this pan will last a long time and be used every Halloween. When baking a simple box cake mix I made sure to sprinkle the skulls with flour which made removing them easy and did not destroy them in the process in fact they were still detailed which made decorating them easy. Highly recommend this to anyone who loves Halloween cookware I’ll be purchasing more Nordic ware decorative pans in the future.

I love this pan. I just made pizza skulls last night for the first time. I used 2 pizza doughs, shredded pizza cheese, & mini pepperoni, & pizza sauce. I cut the pizza dough into sections before stretching each piece for each skull. I make one skull at a time, but the process goes quickly if you have all your ingredients & tools ready. So 15 minutes to fill the skulls, & about 20 minutes of bake time. I know I will try 2-3 Pillsbury pizza doughs next time with the same cheese + sauce. I think the Pillsbury dough can be cut & shaped a bit more easily. I used cooking spray, but will use melted butter in each skull next time also(to get a more darkened skull face). I plan to use this pan for baked skull muffins also.

I LOVE THIS PAN! I originally got it to surprise my boyfriend, whose favorite holiday is Halloween. We have used it pretty much every day since we received it a little over a week ago. We have made cornbread, cake, cakes with fruit. Next I am making a filled cake, and I'm also going to try a pizza skull with a cheese-and-pepperoni stuffed pull apart brain.
I cannot highly enough recommend!
As far as the pan goes, it is a good weight--heavy without being overwhelming. The skulls look great--make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions and prepare your pan with oil/flour/etc (I brushed on melted butter).
I will continue to purchase Nordic Ware baking pans.

Used this for a Murder Mystery party, everyone LOVED it! This product literally deserves a perfect score, hands down. The price made me really iffy on purchasing it, but I'm so glad I did. The metal is very sturdy, doesn't feel chincy at all, and (unimportantly) it's actually a really pretty sparkly brown. It cooks perfectly: browns evenly, cooks through, and NOTHING sticks to it! So nice to just flip this over and have the skulls easily plop out on their own. You can see in the photo the detail in the skull face is REALLY (and surprisingly) good, not lame at all. I've never bought from this brand but I absolutely will again. I don't usually spend more on products like this when I know I can get something much cheaper, but it was absolutely worth it and I'll honestly use it throughout the year, not just around Halloween!! Product came very quickly -- I know other reviews said they had to wait around Halloween, but it arrived promptly in two days. =D

Nice and heavy. Thick metal. Not flimsy at all! I made green chile chicken stuffed tamale pies. I sprayed a little non stick spray in each mold. They popped right out and looked amazing! Everyone loved them! I cut across the mouth, opened it a bit and added green chile sauce. The visual was hilarious and delicious. I can't wait to make up more goodies with this pan.

First thing I noticed about this pan was it's weight; it is heavy Iron pan. The skulls it produces are very detailed. The first picture is of shortbread cookie dough with velvet cake filling. I've also made the pizza rolls (second pic) with this and they turned out great as well. I use a very light spray of nonstick, but that is mostly just a precaution as I have read from many that it isn't needed. The skulls are bigger than other skulls I've seen made by other cheaper pans and these have better detail. I would say these are more closer to a full serving than a bite size snack. I'm happy with the purchase but wish I had planned ahead for Halloween before they raised the price to over $40.

Please note, it is hard to adapt regular cake recipes to the size of this pan. You pretty much are limited to really moist cakes such as carrot cake, apple spice cake and the chocolate cake recipe found at the Nordic Ware web site. Otherwise you will get a really dry cake.
