How It’s Made: Naturals Bakeware
Our Naturals bakeware starts out as a solid coil of aluminum, weighing several thousand pounds. The coil is fed into a press, which first performs a ‘blanking’ operation to cut out the rough shape of the pan. Next, it is roughly formed to resemble the shape of the finished pan. Finally, a galvanized steel rim, which gives rigidity to the pan, is added, and the edges of the pan are curled around the steel rim to encapsulate it fully. Our galvanized steel rims are formed on-site at Nordic Ware too; they begin as long metal rod and go through a series of bending maneuvers to be properly sized for each pan. After all of the metalworking is complete, the pan is sent to be washed and packed. One of the great aspects of manufacturing with pure aluminum is that it is highly recyclable, so any scrap metal that is produced during our production process can be re-melted down and used again.
Nordic Ware was founded in 1946 by a determined wife, Dotty, and her resourceful husband Dave, newly back from the second world war. With only $500 in their pockets, a few good ideas and a desire to create a business of their own, a humble kitchenware company was launched from the basement of their home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the beginning, Nordic Ware’s product line was only a handful of items, all of which were specialty Scandinavian ethnic cookware products. But times have changed! 70 years later with a good measure of perseverance added, Nordic Ware is still proudly manufacturing the vast majority of its products in Minneapolis. We’re proud to say that we’re still family-owned and operated, with three generations involved in our business, and each year we add innovative items to our expansive kitchenware line.
70 Years of Innovation
With wife Dotty at his side, Dave Dalquist returned from WWII to start a business. From humble beginnings in a basement, Nordic Ware has become an intentionally distributed kitchenware brand with a variety of product lines, hundreds of products and millions of fans!
Still a family owned and operated in the US, the company is honored to occupy a place in the new Food History exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Last fall, Nordic Ware was chosen for the prestigious 2015 Minnesota Manufacturing Award for Sustainability, which firms we work hard to minimize our environmental footprint. Our company moves into 2016 poised for the future, with last year setting an all-time record in sales volume and production efficiency.

Nordic Ware's line of Natural Commercial Bakeware is designed for commercial use, and exceeds expectations in the home. The durable, natural aluminum construction bakes evenly and browns uniformly, while the light color prevents overbrowning. The oversived edge also makes getting these pans in and out of the oven a cinch. Proudly made in the USA by Nordic Ware
Top customer reviews
First the things I like...the pan is nice and heafty and well balanced. It's made in the USA. It heats evenly and does a great job baking cookies, and other dough items....actually everything I've baked on it. Now my big beef with this product! I wouldn't feel comfortable putting any food DIRECTLY on this pan. Every time you wash it...(and I do follow recommended instructions and wash by hand)...everything turns a muddy gray...the sponge, the rinse water, your hands, everything. It's even hard to wash the gray off your hands after your done. I hate that so just won't let food actually cook on the surface. I'll always use parchment paper. Don't trust all that gray metallic colored residue that comes off in the washing process.
Update Feb 20, 2012: I sent Nordic Ware an e-mail asking if they could explain the reason for all the gray metal color all over everything when I wash this pan. I told them I was very happy to buy a pan made in the USA and the product did perform flawlessly. I was just concerned about all the leaching of whatever it is. Never got a reply.
Update Nov 19, 2012: After almost a year someone commented on my feedback suggesting I try contacting Nordic Ware customer service again. Thank you Bon!! I felt it only fair to try again since so many people love this sheet. Low and behold I received a quick reply. After explaining the situation, they e-mailed a form to fill out and mail in. I just got an e-mail saying they received it, reviewed the information, and they're sending me a new pan because THE GRAYING I'M EXPERIENCING IS NOT NORMAL. I don't know what happened to my original e-mails but based on THIS customer service experience with Nordic, I'd say it was a flawless experience. The service was friendly, quick, and fair. As soon as I receive the new sheet, I'll wash it, use it, wash it one more time and then report back. I suspect it will be a totally different experience this time....the way we do it here IN THE USA!!!!
Update Dec 3, 2012: I have received the replacement half sheet. After washing several times I have no problem with gray residue. I'm convinced the first sheet I received was defective. This one is perfect...just what I expected from Nordic Ware. This is a company no one should ever be concerned about dealing with. They stand behind their products and, not only deliver quality products, but back them with quality customer service. I'm a believer.
For reference, this can fit 3-4lbs of chopped up potatoes easily; it's a very big pan. It's held up without warping cooking up to 500 for baking, and broiling at 600 degrees Fahrenheit. There hasn't been warping or discoloration or anything.
The size we bought is too large to wash in the dishwasher and it's actually kind of a pain to wash in a standard sink. It's also hard to store; it's just *big*. It might have been better to buy 2 slightly smaller pans so that we could fit two in the oven at a time when we needed to cook large batches.
But quality wise this thing is excellent (and I do plan on buying two of a smaller size as well). It's also cheap, which is a plus. I spent less on this than I would a worse pan at a retail store so I consider this a HUGE win.
So, these are great quality, and affordable so I'm giving it 5 stars even though I do wish I'd bought two of a smaller size instead of one of the larger size pan.
