How It's Made
Our beloved Bundts are produced with lots of hand touch and care, ensuring that they will last for a lifetime. We've perfected this process over the past seven decades--there is a lot of science behind created the best Bundts on earth! At the die casting facility, molten aluminum at temperatures of over 1200 degrees F is ladled into a chamber where an arm rapidly pushes the liquid aluminum into the die (mold). This takes place in a fraction of a second, and the aluminum solidifies as it hits the cooler mold. The two halves of the mold open up, releasing a very hot but solid aluminum Bundt pan.
The pans have razor sharp 'flash', or left over aluminum, that is protruding from the perimeter of each pan. The flash is trimmed to a rough perimeter before the pans are sent to our main processing facility. There, they undergo a series of secondary finishing processes, including vibratory deburring in a chamber of ceramic pebble, shot blasting with stainless media to 'roughen' the parts, and a perimeter routing in a CNC machine to smooth the edges and trim out handles. Next, they are thoroughly washed, and then sent to coatings to be sprayed and cured with PFOA-free premium nonstick. By the time a Bundt pan has left our factory, it has been touched by nearly two dozen sets of hands, ensure that you're receiving the best Bundt pan in the world.
Nordic Ware was founded in 1946 by a determined wife, Dotty, and her resourceful husband Dave, newly back from the second world war. With only $500 in their pockets, a few good ideas and a desire to create a business of their own, a humble kitchenware company was launched from the basement of their home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the beginning, Nordic Ware’s product line was only a handful of items, all of which were specialty Scandinavian ethnic cookware products. But times have changed! 70 years later with a good measure of perseverance added, Nordic Ware is still proudly manufacturing the vast majority of its products in Minneapolis. We’re proud to say that we’re still family-owned and operated, with three generations involved in our business, and each year we add innovative items to our expansive kitchenware line.

With wife Dotty at his side, Dave Dalquist returned from WWII to start a business. From humble beginnings in a basement, Nordic Ware has become an internationally distributed kitchenware brand with a variety of product lines, hundreds of products and millions of fans!
Still a family owned and operated in the US, the company is honored to occupy a place in the new Food History exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Last fall, Nordic Ware was chosen for the prestigious 2015 Minnesota Manufacturing Award for Sustainability, which firms we work hard to minimize our environmental footprint. --I only made this purchase because of the high reviews and couldn't believe I was spending this much money on a cake pan. For years I had used my grandmother's amazing pound cake recipe in an aluminum pan she gave me (which had become scratched over time). Over the last couple of years I began having problems getting the cake out without it sticking and had become so frustrated I was ready to throw in the towel. My final attempt was to purchase a new pan and this one made my cake turn out beautifully! My cakes always tasted delicious and now they look as beautiful as they taste.... Baking Grandmother's cake is once again a pleasurable experience for me!
This NORDIC WARE POUND CAKE PAN is the PERFECT ONE to serve both purposes! The size is tremendous at 18+ cup capacity. It accommodates a 1.5 batch Jewish Apple Cake and bakes it to perfection without a dripping mess of batter cascading over and down the sides! And when time to remove the cake from the pan, I need not have fretted, for the beautifully browned cake slid right from the pan without issue. (And the pan was a breeze to clean, too.) I get compliments all of the time on the appearance of my cakes, especially my sister who always exclaims, "How do you get your cakes to rise to such great heights?". (NOTE: I usually increase my cake recipes to 1.5 to accommodate big appetites and/or more guests. I guess it makes it visually appealing as well.)
The weight of the pan IS substantial (mid weight), but no where near the weight of cast iron pans. It's certainly not too heavy for this 50+ year old to wield, especially in light of the wonderful culinary results obtained. The only caveat of this pan for me has been the discovery that this pan is about 1/4 inch taller than my old angel food pan, thus requiring me to do some "rearranging" within the cabinets, however the trade off is negligible -- plus I gained horizontal space as I now use this NORDIC WARE pan for both bundt and angel food cakes. Gee, I never thought I'd LOVE a cake pan... but THIS ONE's the bomb!
I have baked several cake since my pan arrived. I was a bit lerrie to use my pan without having to grease or flour it BUT it does work! I haven't flour or grease the pan and the cake does come out while upside down give it a good two or three stern shakes and it come out. There might be a small cake residue left behind... small price to pay to avoid the old dreaded having to grease and flour the pan! I just love my cake pan and don't know how I made it this long without it. An excellent investment for all cake bakers!
