30 lbs of cherries pitted fast!

Bought this item after reading positive reviews and deciding that for the price it seemed like it couldn't be beat. While now I'm convinced that for the price, it can't be beat. We opened the box, put it together, and proceeded to pit 30lbs of cherries. Quite a workload but this little pitter flew right through them all. A couple of things I noticed while using it that made it more successful. Some reviewers complained that cherries get stuck, I discovered that by plunging it through and then pulling it all the way back up I avoided any stuck on cherries, the worst thing to happen is the cherry dropping back into the pitting area instead of into the bowl but that's easy to deal with. Don't just plunge it down and expect the spring action to kick it back far enough to force the cherry off of the pitting blade, if you do you would have cherries stuck on quite often. Pull it all the way back up and they drop right off. (This is not difficult to do, it just means holding the handle while you pit) I also noticed that the cherries don't always fall into the pitting area on their own. To speed things up I ran the pitter with my left hand and used my right hand to bump cherries into position if they didn't roll there on their own. It went extremely fast that way. The other issue people complained about was the spray, seriously I can't imagine pitting any number of cherries rapidly without getting cherry juice around the operation area. I put a rag under the bowl and wiped things up when we were done, no biggie. Anyway the pitter is awesome, it stayed put (the suction pad was excellent) it pitted quickly, and it didn't crush the cherries. Loved this thing, we will use it every year until we break it from now on during cherry season.

My mom had one of these years ago, the plastic was yellow... I always thought it worked so efficiently so I finally bought myself one for freezing bulk amounts cherries. It makes a huge splattering mess, so I used it on a table out on the deck. HOWEVER, after using this to pit about 8 cups of cherries, I happened to see some pits in my bowl. I started checking the 'pitted' cherries, and ended up going through every single one: roughly 1 in 7 cherries still had the pit inside, EVEN THOUGH the cherry had been pierced through by the pitter. I did try this on both the softer sour cherries, as well as the traditional firm Bing sweet cherries, had the same results on both. I returned it through Amazon, and happily Norpro refunded me.

Pass on this product if you want all the cherries pitted

This did not work well. I was excited to get this product. I was tired of using the 5 at a time cherry pitter, and I love cherries, so I wanted something quicker. When I first used it, I had my grandchildren here. Bottom line, many of the cherries still had Pits in them. I thought maybe because the kids did most of them, they somehow missed the pits. So I gave it 2 more try's. Unfortunately it is not easy to see if you miss the pits. Yes they come out in the cup, but it's not so easy to see each one come out. You push the trigger and it seems like you must of got the pit out, but sadly that does not mean you did.
I would be returning this product but I waited to long to do so. I wanted to make sure it wasn't "user" error before I left a review and wanted to return.
Don't get me wrong, some of the cherries pitted, but I would honestly say it was more then half that did not.
I would not reccomend this product if your looking for all of the cherries to be pitted.

Seriously, the best cherry pitter out there

My kids and I love cherries, and we love eating them in bulk. After seeing one of my friends with a single pitter, I decided to look for one that can process in bulk. This pitter attaches easily anywhere in the kitchen and does a great job. The hopper fits about 20 cherries at a time, which can be processed in about a minute - that's like 1200 cherries an hour. The bucket for the pits works well, and the spring loaded plunger does a good job of kicking out the pitted cherries. I should caveat that sometimes it won't get all the pits, especially on smaller berries. However, any model will have that problem, and it is a low percentage, less than 5%.

Because we could process cherries in bulk we made a real cherry pie, which was amazing and so much better than the canned filling. Anyway, if you like cherries and want to eat lots of them without having to spit out all the pits, look no further.

When it's working well you can quickly pit a dozen fresh cherries and then just shovel them in your mouth; there is nothing more decadent to me. By the time I'm done chewing I've pitted another dozen. It's not a pretty sight.

Once I was holding the handle wrong and it took off a chunk of skin between my thumb and index finger. It hurt badly. Pitted cherries soothed the pain.

The plastic container slips out and then can get broken by the pitter thingy, so when I am pitting cherries in rapid succession (to shovel another huge handful into my mouth), I hate to hold in the plastic tray, which makes it hard to use the way I want to use it. I want to just hold one hand under the ejection port, shove the pitter down with the other hand, and shovel into my mouth as soon as I swallow. But noooooooo, can't do that. I have to hold the tray in.

UPDATE: I now use a rubber band to keep the tray in while I shovel cherries into my mouth the way I had always dreamed.

UPDATE2: I now use a bowl to catch the pits so that I can shovel more cherries into my mouth without having to empty the pit tray.

UPDATE3: Cherries are getting expensive, no more boxes of cherries, wife cut me off, life is sad.

Makes perfect cherries

Great product! Would be 5 stars but the cherries do not eject 90 percent of the time. you have to manually pop them out which is a pain. This saves tons of time pitting cherries. I should have bought this sooner. Makes perfect holes in the cherries without bruising them or harming them in any way. contains most of the mess. Easy to clean and it does not stain at all. Stays perfectly white and shiny.
