The bag falls off the frame if you fill the bag more than about a third full, no matter how tightly you tie the strings. The reason for this is that it can't slip under the metal loop completely to grasp better because the legs of the thing come directly out of the hoop, and for intensive purposes, from the edge. There is nothing for the bag to grasp. I do larger batches of jellies, and having to slow down production this much is unacceptable.
The upshot is that the bags work. If you've already bought this, and have access to some gallon-sized glass jars (ours were originally pickle jars), you can use those and put the bag in them. It works PERFECTLY. Almost as if that was the original idea...
Thankfully I purchased this locally so I can easily return it. I only wished I had read reviews on it first.
I have to amend my review to note that it does rust terribly as another reviewer wrote. At first this was more of a cosmetic problem, but it does seem to affect the quark cheese if the stain on the bag from the rusty ring touches the cheese. I will keep using it because I don't have an alternative, but it's too bad.
I do love the bags, however. Once they have drained for a bit on the ring I take them off and tie them on something to let them drain further. Then I can store the cheese in the fridge in the bags (in containers) and they are very easy to clean. One important thing to do is to tie bigger knots in the ends of the strings - once you wash the bags, the strings shrink and then retract through the sides of the bag. It takes a long time (and a lot of patience) to feed them back through.
UPDATE: After tipping this thing over a couple of times full of kefir, I gave up on it, and purchased some very wide mouth glass jars that the jelly bags fit over perfectly. The jars do not tip and they do the exact same job with a lot less mess. I cannot recommend this stand although the cotton jelly bags are wonderful.
The stand it comes with is kind of low grade - the legs screw on and they don't line up properly when fully inserted, so it can be a bit wiggly. also, it is plain plated steel, so it will definitely rust if you don't disassemble it and dry it completely before you put it away.
It is a bit fussy to get the bag lined up properly and the pull string tightened, but once you get through this rigmarole it strains fairly well. i have used it for strawberry and tomato straining so far.
I would probably replace it, but I don't reach for strainer bags that often, so it will just live with it. I rate it as a solid MEH!

It's a little un-sturdy unless you have the right size bowl. I ended up placing it over my medium size stock pot to keep the legs stretched and sturdy. Read morePublished 3 days ago by jms460
Love this stand......fits my pot perfectly and works beautifully! Thanks.Published 29 days ago by Cass County Gal
The frame is made up of 4 separate pieces, and the threads on the end of the legs are too short, so the legs come loose. Read morePublished 29 days ago by SeattleSue
I purchased this at the local farm store, it is also the only jelly strainer that I have found sold in any store in my area. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Christine D
Worked ok, but not as sturdy as I would have liked. The bag is not easy to clean either. I think it would depend on what you were using it for. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Dreamerr
Yeah, it's a nice idea, but this thing is too flimsy to strain blackberries. We had to remove the bag entirely and spent several exhausting hours squeezing it to get the juice out... Read morePublished 2 months ago by Wendy H Virgadamo
