My husband bought a gallon jug of Tabasco, so we are faced with a dilemma of pouring some of its contents into a smaller bottle for easier dispensing. I was looking for a glass funnel that you use in laboratories, but I came across this, and it seems to fit the bill.
The funnels look like they were made of pretty good stainless steel, it doesn't look cheap, quite small in size, but I don't really deal with funneling ingredients from huge containers within the kitchen anyway, so it works well for me. And we have a tiny kitchen utility drawer in our apartment which is already stuffed, so the size of the funnels are very compact and convenient.
I uploaded a picture to scale for these funnels so future customers can clearly see the size of the funnels. I am happy with my purchase!
See the customer images uploaded for reference. I find these funnels similar in size to the Norpro 243 3-Piece Plastic Funnel Set, however the plastic set has a tapered stem while the stainless steel set is straight. These are really not practical for general use in the kitchen or mixing film photography development chemicals. They are probably good for lab use with small bottles only.
This 3 piece stainless steel funnel set is perfect for filling oil or vinegar containers. The sizes are roughly:
* Large - 2 3/4" diameter opening with 1/2" bottom opening and 3" long
* Medium - 2" diameter opening with 9/16" bottom opening and 2 1/4" long
* Small - 1 9/16" diameter opening with 3/16" bottom opening and 2" long
For storage, they can nest inside of each other or hang on the included ring.
They are strong, well-made, and fairly easy to clean especially if you use a small brush.
The smallest funnel works nicely for filling small bottles of essential oils and/or oil blends.
The largest is about 3" in height, and the smaller funnels are maybe 2.5" and 2" in height. They are clearly made of stainless steel, and a tag states they are made of 18/10 stainless. They certainly look it. I'm usually good at recognizing chrome plated items.
These funnels have heft when you hold them. They're not cheaply made, and they appear to consist of one molded piece of stainless steel each (or welded together so well, they will not easily break). They are unique because most stainless steel funnels are much larger, and these serve a very specific purpose of filtering oil or small granular substances such as sugar. Of course they might get clogged if you try to filter flour, because flour even gets clogged going through larger funnels. You need to run liquid or oil through these, or powder that is granular and the texture of fine sand in an hourglass. The purpose is to funnel these substances into tiny bottles or through narrow openings without spillage. (Honey or other viscous syrup like fluids may also clog.) A good rule of thumb is if you had total steadiness in pouring a liquid or granular substance through a tiny opening, would it enter that opening or clog the opening? If the latter, these funnels will not magically cause these substances (i.e., honey or flour) to enter that tiny opening.
I was very impressed with these funnels. They augment my larger funnel collection and will work well for specialized kitchen tasks involving pouring oils or powders through small openings. They might even work well in decorating cakes. The uses are limited to your imagination.
I use the smaller funnel all the time to transfer liquids into small spray bottles. I use small 1/2 oz to 1 oz funnel sprayers for hiking / backpacking to hold bug sprays and other liquids. I also use the small funnel for transferring Distilled water into a small sprayer at my coffee bar. The nice thing about these funnels is being stainless, you can clean them thoroughly and easily, and unlike plastic not worry about the liquid etching into the plastic.
I use the medium and larger funnels in the shop to transfer all sorts of liquids into small sprayers or containers - whether it is thinner, spirits, alcohol, simple green - whatever the liquid, these funnels are called upon constantly for transfer. I don't like having large sprayers and containers around for everyday use, and I like to use smaller containers for space / storage reason. Thus, I need smaller funnels for transferring these liquids.
I fully expect these funnels to last a lifetime with proper care. The only way I can see these not lasting a very long time is with abuse or improper cleaning / storage. Highly recommended.
