I've been using Norton 360 since it came out and it's kept multiple computers in fighting condition without me having to do anything. I love the straightforward interface and how non intrusive it is. I forget it's even running until it blocks something nasty or warns me about a sketchy site. The 2GB of backup storage is a joke, and if you want more it'll cost you, but I didn't buy this for it's backup anyway.

If you already used Norton 360 and have it set to auto renew each year, cancel it immediately. Norton charges twice as much for this as Amazon does. All you need to do is activate the new serial number (Launch Norton> Click Account> Renew Subscription > Click the link 'I have a key or code to enter' > Enter the serial number that comes with this box> Done!) Easy peasy and you save more than 50%. Go ahead and buy this now and just hang on to it until your current subscription expires since there is no expiration date on these.

I upgraded from Norton 360 2013. The upgrade took about two minutes and I didn't have to reboot or uninstall the prior version first. It also activated automatically. One thing to note is if you enter a new key from a newly purchased version rather than renewing your current subscription through Symantec, the remaining time on your current subscription does not carry over. Although remaining time does carry over if you renew your current license through Symantec, I've found purchasing new licenses to usually be less expensive. Not only that but you can upgrade to the latest version using your current key by clicking the new version check link under the support tab. If you have a month or more remaining on your current subscription, I'd suggest first upgrading your current program to the newest version and waiting until you're close to the expiration date of your current license before entering the new key.

As for the program itself, other than a minor background color change from dark to light, the main interface is the same. The sub menus remain largely unchanged except for removal of the check vulnerability protection link for checking vulnerable programs you may have installed. Another change I noticed was the reputation scan link missing from the scan sub-menu. Reputation scans are just another scanning option for scanning files and programs based on their reputation in the Norton community. A new feature added is Norton power eraser. Power Eraser will now handle scanning for any grey area programs that don't register as viruses but still cause unwanted pop-ups and other annoyances or leave your system vulnerable. Norton also offers Power Eraser as a free download for anyone, even those without a Norton product installed.

Scanning times seem about the same.

I just spent the morning on the phone to cancel the Norton automatic renewal. They charge FULL PRICE for a product that can be bought at a fraction of the cost. You can even buy an older version and get updated to the most recent one. Why would I pay eighty dollars for something I can get for thirty? This is pretty shady, and no way to treat your customers. Furthermore I am not sure how they even got my credit card info, since I bought the product through Amazon as a DL and not from Norton directly. My time is valuable, and I resent being forced to spend it on the phone with a foreigner who can barely speak English (no offense to the foreign employees, they are just doing their jobs). I really have better things to do.

Horrible customer service, shady practices, this is a company that I want nothing to do with. I will be taking my business to a competitor that does not try to secretly gouge me.

After Norton automatically renewed my subscription - without my permission - I got on-line with their chat line. I voiced my complaints (which included being overcharged $85 for a product they're currently selling for $49 and available on Amazon for less than $30), the representative offered a partial refund of the purchase price. I agreed and thanked the rep for her help.. but complained about their automatic renewal policy that forces the renewal unless we set some option in the program to opt out.

A few hours later, I received a notice from Norton that my license for Norton 360 had been REVOKED!

After waiting for their chat line, I found that the representative refunded part of the excessive charge, and never told me she was cancelling my subscription. The new rep reinstated the subscription. As a very old customer of Norton products - back to Peter Norton days, this leaves me with a very negative feeling about Norton and Symantec. It's taken several hours to get this resolved. Personally, I'll never buy anything directly from Norton again. The less I have to do with them, the better. Phooey!

Platform for Display: PC Disc Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
First off, let me note that I received this product for free as part of Amazon's Vine program. At the time I installed it, my new computer came with McAfee trial which was already starting to throw up nuisance screens regular enough I was going to get rid of it at the first pass. I realize there's a lot of subjectivity in claims about performance degradation or vague 'it stopped working' so I'll try to keep that out of the review as much as possible.

Just note that the primary computer I'm basing this review on has 32GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 and a very powerful CPU. As I was saying, McAfee was starting to annoy me to death so when Norton came, I got rid of it immediately. The computer's performance with or without McAfee was impressive to say the least, amazing in fact. There was never any notable delay, never any latency worth talking about and it was just snappy (even when I was compiling really huge programs, things went very smoothly).

Then I installed Norton 360, knowing that I might live to regret it. Install is pretty smooth and in and of itself, didn't take very long. But this is where things started to get annoying, in that there was a lot of attempts to "upsell" other products or service levels. They're easy enough to ignore, but it still gets a little annoying and leaves you with a "Am I going to be hit up with some 'great deal' at the end that if I decline, means I lose some of my features?" A little paranoid on my end, but I've had some bad experiences before (and I'm being a little melodramatic).

Anyway, once I got through the install and got all the wizards up, things seemed fine. I was asked about the automatic backups which I already have, but figured why not, if this one is better perhaps I'll use it for the integrated experience.
