I've been a regular visitor to New Orleans since 1976. Trying with each trip to dig a little deeper in to the culture and music of this great city. When I first heard about Thursday nights at Vaughn's I was warned off the place by my friends who lived there. The neighborhood was too dangerous. Why risk it? There are plenty of other places to see great local music. I listened to them. For a while. I finally went in 2009 and had a wonderful time. My wife and I felt welcomed by everyone there. Kermit and his band were on fire. At times it was hard to tell apart the band from the audience. The scene outside the bar was every bit as cool.

I'm sorry I waited so long to go to Vaughn's. Jay Mazza makes you feel like you were a regular. If you are a fan of New Orleans nightlife you will enjoy this great book!

And remember.......don't always listen to your friends!

I love this book. A must read even if you have never been to Vaughan's. Makes you feel like you were there every Thursday night. Brings back great memories of standing by the grill talking to whoever is manning it at the time, squeezing into the bar-dance floor hoping to make it to the bar to get a drink. All the time running into people having the time of their life!! Gives the person who has never been to the Big Easy a feel for how it really is once you stray off Bourbon St.

Jay Mazza brings the story to us and take us there... I wish it were longer because I liked where it took me!

Really great job for a story that needed to be told. A nice read and even though it isn't an "action packed" story per se, I had a hard time putting it down. Read it in three pieces and was looking forward to sitting down with it each time.
