This book brings out into the open what many of us have been talking about privately and have been experiencing in our relationships. What does it really mean to love like Jesus loved, live a life or integrity, purity, and holiness, and not be portrayed as rigid and legalistic? It is a fine line, and I am convinced we can't do it alone. We must rely upon the Holy Spirit to help us…exactly what God intended us to do. I would encourage believers of all ages to read this book as I believe it will be thought provoking and lead us to be more intentional and Christ-center with our lives.

I hesitated to write this review because there is much to be said for the old adage, "If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all." I know I could sit down with Lisa Cherry and never run out of things to talk about and we would have a great time and find much common ground. As a homeschool group leader, I appreciate Lisa for her work in raising awareness of abuse within the homeschooling community. Having been a member of a POTTS group for 3 years, this is the third book I've read by this family and this one just missed the mark.

I consider myself an activist in the culture war so this theme has great value to me; however, I found it alarmist and manipulative with ample use of all caps and exclamation points for added impact. Just look at some of the titles on these Amazon reviews and you will find such charged words as DESPARATE, SCARY, URGENT. That pretty much sums up the tone of the book. If you are a Christian and you are somehow unaware that American culture is drifting away from Christian values, you must have been in a coma for 50 years. The culture war is nothing new. We've been in a steady cultural decline for half a century.

This book would like you to believe that we have recently fallen off a cliff (there is actually an illustration of this cliff on the author's website) and doomsday looms for all but the `Not Open Remnant' just as in the days of Noah. Unfortunately, this type of alarmism is nothing new and it has led many lemmings right over a cliff of another sort altogether. The cult cliff. I don't think the Cherrys have set out to be cult leaders but this book is a good start on an unintentional cult franchise that they have followed up with a subscription service known as Project 7000, an effort to mobilize and equip the remnant.

Not Open: Win The Invisible Spiritual Culture War addresses the real war taking place in our world. The war that is robbing the minds of this generation and is now far reaching to touch the next.

Not Open challenges us to continue to be Open (loving and caring for others), but to also be Not Open to the things in our culture that are moving us away from the basic truths of the Bible! The authors speak with urgency about becoming a part of God's Remnant (those still standing by faith to do the work of His Kingdom); to not give in to the pressures of the "open to anything and everything" attitude but instead to be willing and ready to stand on the Word of God and live it out!

It took courage to say what Lisa and Lucas Cherry said in Not Open: Win the Invisible Spiritual Culture War. Theirs are voices “crying in the wilderness” of a beguiling and destructive culture.

Buy this book. Read it, and heed it. Their Biblically sound message is releasing the light and truth that the church needs in this desperate hour.

I am a 21 year old woman who has been through public school, has live in the dark college world and has seen up close the lies that people believe because they are deceived. NOT OPEN is a message of blunt truth's in the midst of a generation that believes blatant lies. It uncovers the TRUTH about what God says is false.

As a Bible believing Christian, this book really hits home and challenges the believer to be all that we’re called to be in this world. Lisa and Lucas are upfront and tackle many controversial issues that we face in today’s culture. Their insight is eye opening and stirs the reader to become a part of the “not open” remnant. Their words are genuine and I believe they are straight from the heart of God. God placed this message and vision for this book on their hearts, and because they allowed themselves to be transparent, it touches the reader and ministers to their spirit. Lisa and Lucas challenge believers to speak the truth in love, no matter what the cost, to give up on compromise, and rely on truth.

We should be so in love with our Savior that we are willing to sacrifice it all and ultimately live a life truly blessed by complete surrender. We are to be the vessels God can use to bring His children the light. After reading this book, it changed my perspective in many ways, and my mind always goes back to three questions: How many people am I going to take with me when this world has passed? Did I live my life courageously and totally dependent on Christ, increasing His kingdom by being bold? Am I willing to say NO to compromise and YES to truth?

I encourage every believer to read this book and then pass it on to a friend. Let the words speak to your spirit and allow the truth of what God has called us to do be the basis of your walk with Christ.
